Opaque, dense lacing.
Full body, packed with flavor, smooth texture, good length.
Intense bittersweet taste, alcohol heat,
Mocha character, excellent expresso flavor, taste of alcohol in evidence, particularly in the finish.
A beer to always come back to.

Southern Tier continues to underwhelm me. Was looking forward to getting my hands on this one. It wasnt bad but really nothing to brag about. Would much rather have a Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout.

4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: FEB 4, 2014 On tap at Easy Tiger in Austin, TX. Pours a opaque black with decent khaki head. Aroma is booze, vanilla and chocolate. Strong aroma. Taste is very chocolatey, slightly bitter with espresso notes. Thick on the palate. Unique, fantastic beer.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Appearance is dark, brown opaque, tan head that dissipates quickly leaving some lacing behind. Aroma is subtle dark chocolate. Taste starts as a chocolate milkshake, followed by a slight bitter bite and ends with a nice, dark chocolate finish. Perfect beer for dessert.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Great chocolate smell, not overly sweet, balanced by the bitter dark chocolate flavour and there’s a good amount of carbonation to lighten it up perfectly.

650 ml bottle poured into snifter. Opaque black color reminiscent of burnt motor oil with a miniscule creamy tan head that surrenders quickly. Aroma is dominated by cocoa, vanilla and lactose. Flavor follows suit with plenty of chocolate character, but not simply sweet. There’s plenty of bitterness to be found here as well with coffee and even some burnt notes. The mouthfeel is smooth and velvety with no apparent carbonation. While I do enjoy the flavor of this beer, I do find myself getting a bit fatigued towards the end of the bottle.

A nice seasonal beer that comes out, at least in my area, around Christmas time. Right when I am ready for a solid brew with chocolate overtones....this brew meets those wants!

Pours black with a thick tan head. Aroma is Borden’s chocolate milk. No lie! Tastes like chocolate milk with a bitter edge. Unbelievable!
