craftycarl21 (510), South Hero, Vermont, USA Aug 3, 2009 Jet black pour, minimal head. Aroma is unbelievably heavy and thick, with dark chocolate, marshmallow, coffee, and cream. Flavor holds massive chocolate and cream, with alcohol certainly evident. Palate is not as thick and rich as I would have expected; if you’re going to go for the decadent sweet beer, the mouthfeel should follow suit more than this does. Nevertheless, a delectable offering, but not as impressive as the Creme Brulee in my mind. oteyj (713), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Aug 3, 2009 Utterly black pour with thin tan head. Coffee and chocolate are evident from three feet away. Actual aroma is dark chocolate syrup, and a huge marshmallow cream character, with a subtle back of coffee. Flavor is creamy roast, massive amounts of milk chocolate, marshmallow, and a syrupy dark sugar profile. Palate is thick and lacking in carbonation, which certainly works here. Lots of sweet cocoa and candy like sugars with a huge cream character dominate this brew. Truly a dessert beer. pete4999 (120), Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 2, 2009 Oh my....pours a nice, deep black with a pinkish tan head. Smells immediately of chocolate and slight coffee. Without a doubt one of the smoothest, richest, silkiest beers I’ve ever tasted. It tastes like dark chocolate....delicious roast malts too. Unbelievably good. Magicdave6 (5383), London, Greater London, England Jul 31, 2009 Bottle at the RBESG09 Grand tasting, sheffield. Alround rating: Big chocolate cgharacter in the nose and mouth, sweetness is perfect, its rich and balanced and really tasty. Once again southern tier has shown me it makes the best imp stouts you can buy. mjs (1445), Helsinki, Finland Jul 30, 2009 (Bottle at Sorbon, Bromma, on 2009-07-28) Almost black. Tiny tan coloured head. Dark chocolate in aroma. Full bodied palate with medium carbonation. Chocolate, bitterness, cocoa powder, sweetness and roastedness in taste. Chocolate and roastedness in aftertaste. bierkoning (5985), La Tropica, Netherlands Jul 26, 2009 Bottle @ RBESG Grand Tasting 2009. Almost black and opague. Loads of chocolate and cacao powder in the aroma. Sweet chocolate milk flavor, leaving little room for anything else. Just a bit of roast in the aftertaste.
Onedimensional, but very nice indeed. FlssmrBrewAlum (1053), Lisle, Illinois, USA Jul 25, 2009 Updated: Aug 3, 200922 oz bottle shred with a friend from Binnys (Plainfield, IL). Pours a pitch black opaque pour, decent milk chocolate pour that dies to a film and clings to the corners laces fairly well. Aromas ever apparent, extreme dark chocolate and roasted malts, light coffee mocha, but strong chocolate, unmistakeable. Initial is thick straight dark chocolate, light bitterness up front, aroma is true to the flavor as dark chocolate dominates the taste buds. The flavor is amazing. Pretty decent bitterness on the backend from bittersweet chocolate, good sweetness, roasted malts. Amazing flavors, a touch one dimensional, but impressive beer overall. Borresteijn (1347), Amstelveen, Netherlands Jul 23, 2009 RBESG Sheffield 2009 Grand Tasting at the Harlequin. Deep dark brown to black colour, light beige head. Aroma of rich milk chocolate, sooooo nice. Flavour is chocolate sauce, chocolate milk, sweet, light bitter chocolate finish. Medium bodied. Amazing, pure f*ing chocolate all over. Since I’ve only had a few tastes of it, I can’t judge the drinkability of this, but I would love to try a whole bottle of this stuff.
