Commercial Description:
“the ancients called it ‘food for the gods’“ The Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, unfolds a complex web of mystery around a beverage known as xocoatl (ch-co-atle). At Southern Tier, we’re not surprised that hieroglyphs of the ancient Maya depict chocolate being poured for rulers and gods. Even through the many voyages of Columbus, the mystical bean remained nothing more than a strange currency of the native peoples. Moving through centuries, the circular journey of cacao has been realized in our brewing house, encompassing the complexity of the darkest, bitter-sweet candy together with the original frothy cold beverage of the ancient Maya to bring to you our Blackwater Series Choklat Stout. We have combined the finest ingredients to tempt your senses & renew the power & interrelation of history in every bottle.

Bottle (65 cl) at a Göteborg RB tasting. Black with a large brown head. Intense chocolate aroma, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, some spicy hops. Medium to heavy body, smooth mouthfeel. A bit sweet with moderate bitterness. The overall impression is an overwhelming punch of chocolate.

Bottle courtesy of HogTownHarry - thanks for picking this one up for me, Harry! Pours pitch black with a two-finger dark tan head, just beautiful. Fantastic aroma of high quality dark chocolate with backing notes of roasted malt and a hint of alcohol. Full bodied without being too thick or cloying - just about perfect, really. Delicious flavour - tonnes of chocolate, but a good amount of roast malt as well, and a well-hopped finish that holds some great mint notes. Chocolate-mint - yeah, loving this! Beautiful stuff all around.

Bottle. Black color, brown head. Huge chocolate aroma, cocoa, mint, some vanilla. Chocolate flavor as well, cocoa, some hop,s mint, perfume and tar. Bitter chocolate finish. Alcohol is very well hidden, but this is too much chocolate to really please me. I wanted this beerto be better....

(650 ml bottle) On March 14, 2008.
Black color, brown head. Very sweet chocolate drink scent, a little bit of hops perhaps, very one-dimensional. Chocolate, bitter, hoppy, roasted taste. Smooth mouthfeel, high bitterness.

Chocolate....a little more chocolate....did I mention there’s chocolate in this one? Pours pitch black, light beige head, smooth, chocolatey (no, really, it’s got some chocolate in it). Second sip, whoa....there’s some more chocolate! I think someone melted down a Hershey bar, spiked it with some alcohol, and put it in this bottle. Yep....chocolate.

At a Göteborg gathering: Black colour, with a nice brown creamy head.. Aroma of dark choclate,malts,citric, and a nice balanced hopy nose. Flavor is almost the smae, nice balnced Imperial stout. Chocolate and hopynes in a nice mix here. Medium body, and a medium sweet chocolate finish. Nice

Bottle. pours thick and oily black just the way I like it. Powerful dark chocolate flavor. overpowers everything else. Quite tasty if you like chocolate.

Bottle, and OMG this beer poured a dark black oil like color with only a slight head. Goes down silky smooth, just like melted chocolate. What flavor, it’s truly like a melted Hershey’s bar. This beer is awesome.
