billk (300), Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, USA Feb 8, 2008 Tap @ TJ’s Paoli. Aroma of bitter European dark chocolate (the good stuff). Very chocolately flavor with some spice. Nice sipper. Alcohol was omnipresent but not too distracting. Into full bodied. Plenty of bitterness, not too sweet. I prefer the flavors of roasted malts and hops over chocolate but this was interesting. sinkr (212), Lusby, Maryland, USA Feb 8, 2008 Bomber->snifter @ circa 45-50 degrees F. Pours a creamy head that is light brown that gives some lacing, but both dissipate quickly on top of a black body. The aroma is caramel and coco (not so much sweet like chocolate, more unsweetened) with a heavy alcohol aroma and perhaps some resin aroma. The duration of the flavor is long, it is lightly sweet and bitter. On the palate, the body is medium, texture is creamy, and has a soft bit of carbonation with a chalky and bitter aftertaste.
All-in-all, a very good beer, but it’s a bit on the expensive side--perhaps a few dollars per bomber more than it should be. fredandboboflo (1392), East Setauket, New York, USA Feb 8, 2008 Bottle. Name pretty much says it all with all sorts of different takes on chocolate coming through in the nose and the flavor, from tootsie roll to milk chocolate to baker’s chocolate. Pretty impressive taste for a beer that would at first glance seem to be one sided. Decent amount of bitterness keeps it from going over the sweetness edge, but still not a beer I would have more than once every so often because it is very sweet and desserty. Still a very fun treat though. Finishes with quite the alcohol kick. Frauditor (148), Hagerstown, Maryland, USA Feb 8, 2008 bottle from wooden keg. thin medium light head. pours dark brown with orangish trims. smell is very sweet like swiss miss hot chocolate. reminds me of an old pair of tazmanian devil silk boxer shorts i had years ago- makes you feel wild and crazy but is so very smooth to get into. awesome. k4df4l (154), DTown, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 8, 2008 Bottle - pours black with brown highlights, skim of mocha foam that quickly disappears. Aroma is massively chocolate...bittersweet and lightly dusty with a definite tootise roll thing going on. Flavor is equally massive chocolates..bittersweet and tootsie roll all over. As the glass warms the chocolate malt starts to come through with a slight coffee note. Finish was slightly dry with light alcohol warming and the body was medium heavy. For a beer with such intense aromas and flavors it never became overwhelming and always seemed in balance. Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA Feb 7, 2008 On tap at the Publick House in Brookline, Mass. Pours with a dark brown to black body with a medium thick head and some lacing. It’s full of bitter sweet choclate with some malt showing through. Wow, what a chocolate bomb. Full bodied and smooth. xmarcnolanx (789), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Feb 6, 2008 Jesus-fuckstain-Christ. The aroma on this beer, it’s like a siren luring me to put my dick in it. Must. Not. Ruin. Beer.
Hugely chocolate and that’s about it. It’s like a tootsie roll.
My God, someone just put alcohol in my tootsie roll smoothie. Brilliant!
Palate is like I pureed a tootsie roll, added a little water, and then fermented it.
I could molest this beer, repeatedly. I’d have to move on eventually, as tootsie rolls get kind of chewy, hurt your jaw, and make you sick after about 30 of them, but this is great!
bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Feb 6, 2008 (Bottle) Pours an opaque black body with a small tan head. Aroma of milk/dark chocolates, brownies, tootsie rolls…heck this beer is everything chocolate with some roastiness. Flavor complements the nose nicely with much of the same: milk chocolate, brownies, lactose, and roasted malt with a dry bitter finish.
