COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“the ancients called it ‘food for the gods’“ The Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, unfolds a complex web of mystery around a beverage known as xocoatl (ch-co-atle). At Southern Tier, we’re not surprised that hieroglyphs of the ancient Maya depict chocolate being poured for rulers and gods. Even through the many voyages of Columbus, the mystical bean remained nothing more than a strange currency of the native peoples. Moving through centuries, the circular journey of cacao has been realized in our brewing house, encompassing the complexity of the darkest, bitter-sweet candy together with the original frothy cold beverage of the ancient Maya to bring to you our Blackwater Series Choklat Stout. We have combined the finest ingredients to tempt your senses & renew the power & interrelation of history in every bottle.

Well balanced between a typical stout (minus the more popular overly done bittering addition) and a nice addition of chocolate. Definetly not a cocoa flavor, but chocolate. Very nice.

Couple years in the cellar and smooth as silk. Huge chocolate and roast, nicely balanced. Aroma of chocolate, oatmeal, metal. incredible mouthfeel as expected. Hops still doing their thing. Very enjoyable. Tasted at 55F.

22 Oz bottle pour split. Pours a near black color with no head. Sweet chocolate cocoa aroma with some vanilla. Flavor matchea, with a delicious milk chocolate finish. Very tasty. Really enjoyed this.

On tap at the bluebonnet brew off. Poured a very dark opaque brown with a khaki head. Taste of dark chocolate, roasted malts, liquorice, with a very bitter finish. Average carbonation, medium body.

Pours pitch black w/ a mocha head that leaves lacing. The aroma is robust w/ cocoa. The flavor is dark bitter chocolate that has a nice silky mouthfeel until the bitterness really kicks in at the finish. Definitely worth a try for imperial enthusiasts!

Best Chocolate beer I have ever had. Amazingly smooth and drinkable for such a high ABV beer. Nice Belgian chocolate that has the right amount of bitterness and not too sweet. Well done!

Poured from bottle to snifter. Black with tan head and lace. Aroma was pure sweet dark chocolate. I get little else in the aroma, maybe a little raisan. Taste is liquid dark chocolate. The stout comes in late in swallow and in the aftertaste. The roasted malts get a little stronger as it warms. I did not get the alcohol warmth that others got. Amazing

There was a little bit of smoke when I opened the bottle. The beer pours a dark brown, almost black with a two finger creamy tan head. The aroma smells like sweet chocolate, almost like a Hershey’s candybar. The taste is liquid chocolate. It is more bitter in the flavor than in the aroma. The alcohol warmth can be felt as well. The aftertaste is rather unique almost like mint chocolate. The mouthfeel is on the full side and drinkability is medium to high. Out of all the chocolate beers I have had, this is the best I have ever had and has the strongest chocolate characteristics.

Would be more true to xocolatl if this stout were brewed with cacao nibs rather than chocolate. Too sweet and poor aftertaste. Nose is chocolaty, taste is chocolate forward rather than chocolate following roasty malt.

Tap and bottle. No secrets here. This is made with bitter sweet chocolate. Solid flavor and creamy mouth feel. Not in love with lingering after taste. Overall very solid.
