Tastes of milk chocolate, vanilla, lactose and ends with a nice hop bitterness. The strongest chocolate taste of any chocolate imperial stout I have had. FunkyBrewster (549), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Smells like I just opened a bottle of chocolate syrup and stuck my nose in. Very malt, and maybe a hint of fruit. Dark brown nearly black color. Extremely sweet chocolate flavor, sweet on the start and a nice dark chocolate bitter finish. Very full bodied and thick as can be. There are some notes of alcohol in the finish, but not enough to make it unpleasant, and after all, it is 11% so I can forgive. This is a dessert beer through and through. sebletitje (2001), Tampa, Florida, USA

Pours pitch black, with coffeish/brown head.
Aroma is filled with nice / rich dark chocolat.
Taste is of chocolat as well, with some light hop bitterness. Leaves a little floral afteraste and some sweet notes (possibly banana and vanilla).
This is simply an amazing beer. They have achieved putting the taste of "good" chocolat in a beer white keeping the latter very drinkable. pete4999 (172), Buffalo, New York, USA

Smells immediately of chocolate and slight coffee. Without a doubt one of the smoothest, richest, silkiest beers I’ve ever tasted. It tastes like dark chocolate....delicious roast malts too. Unbelievably good. DalzAle (518), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 12, 2008 Beer poured a deep brown color with a light brown head. Aroma was enticing from 2 feet away, excellent dark chocolate smell right off the bat. When smelled up close, overtones of vanilla were apparent. First sip released an intense bitter chocolate flavor with a sweet, slightly nutty aftertaste. One of Southern Tiers better offerings that Ive had so far. Mora2000 (98), Dallas, Texas, USA

Thanks to Exiled for splitting this beer with me.
Poured dark brown, almost black, into a Dogfish Head signature glass. The smell is unmistakable, straight chocolate. Not hops or alcohol present. The taste follows the smell, with a huge rich chocolate flavor. When the beer is in your mouth, you get a rich milk chocolate flavor. This beer tastes about like YooHoo or Nestle Quick. Easily the most chocolatey beer I have ever sampled. The finish is bitter chocolate. Absolutely amazing. This beer completely hides the alcohol. I have no idea how Southern Tier brewed a beer that tasted this chocolatey, but they did. Quite and accomplishment. Barrios (926), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
