Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate, lots of bittersweet chocolate flavor. A different and truly excellent beer. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA

I decided to share the bottle with my buddy who has already dived in and loves it. The pour is a dark dark brown. I initially thought it was black, but upon further inspection, its just not shiny enough to be black, there is a definite dark chocolate tint. The head is pretty nonexistent - just a thin line of mocha cream. The aroma is the really seductive part. Incredible dark chocolate and rich rich creamy notes - like a tootsie roll. Calling it tootsie roll is just not fair, it smells really good. The flavor is equally inspiring. Super rich dark chocolate jaymobrown (1363), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Very dark with a light tan head. Smelled of chocolate ice cream, coffee, and walnuts. Thick mouthfeel -- almost like a shake, but dry. Chocolate through and through. Roasted barley, malts as well. I almost gulped this down because it was so good. Wish I had one for breakfast. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 5, 2008 Black as night, with a thin, ecru-hued line of bubbles on the sides of the snifter. Incredibly rich and cocoa-filled aroma. Lots of roasted malts and vanilla especially. Lactose sweetness in the nose matches the delicate lactose/cream notes in the flavor. Just the right amount of coffee in the flavor. Not artificially chocolate tasting at all - this is not a Hersheys, and even better than godiva...A girl’s dream, this beer. One of the smoothest beers I’ve had, and the 11% is perfectly hidden. This beer rivals some of Bells’ best brews. kyzr (1132), Belgrade, Montana, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 9, 2008 Bottle thanks to markgugs. Dark black with a small brown head. Wow, this thing smells just like a tootsie roll. Big chocolate on the nose with some sweetness and roast. Flavor is all chocolate at first. Then it settles down on the palate and caramel begins to come out. Very nice texture with a creamy mouthfeel. Just a touch of bittersweet chocolate on the finish. brewblackhole (1386), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 22, 2007 Huge huge chocolate, chocolate hit my nose as soon as I opened the bottle,at first it was like sticking my nose in one of those old Hersheys Cocoa black containers, but then the alcohol caught up and it became more of a creme de cocoa, and eventually peppery hops made an appearance.by far the chocolateiest aroma I have ever experienced in a brew, taste is big an unembarrasingly chocolate, like Hersheys syrup with some vodka, and that very distinct hop bitterness in the finish, texture was smooth and creamy, each swallow was a fresh chocolate experience. This is what I always craved when trying a new Chocolate brew and always seemed to fall short. Its not complex, what you have here is chocolate, alcohol and hops. If you love these threee ingredients ,this might be as close to perfection as it comes. An absolute winner. This is what I love about the craft brew scene ,after over 1000 ratings,to still be able to discover a gem like this. LtJudge (435), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 24, 2008 Pours a dark brown color with a small tan head. HUGE chocolate aroma filled the air upon pouring. After basking in the uforick glow of such a wonderful chocolate aroma, I started to notice hints of vanilla peaking through. Flavor is what I have always expected a chocolate stout to taste like. Almost like a smooth chocolate soda. After the wonderful chocolate flavor the alcohol sneaks in. Then the spicy hops pop in to finish the deal with a bitter finish. What a wonderful brew! Thanks Brewblackhole! Cornboy (418), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 8, 2008 Superb aromas of actual chocolate, not chocolate malts or that fake tootsie roll chocolate smell. Pours dark with a moderate tan head.
Taste is pure chocolate with hints of vanilla bean in the finish. Medium-heavy bodied and on the sweet side. Alcohol non-existent, cant believe this is 11%, also cannot believe how much aroma and chocolate flavor ST has packed in this beauty.
