3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Kelly via Seattle. Pours a viscous black color with a faint reddish brown head. Smells and tastes of semi-sweet chocolate. Finishes with a note of hops, but don’t get me wrong - this is pure Hershey’s syrup. Heed the warnings and split this at least 4 ways per bottle. I feel like I’m turning into Cornholio as I drink this.

BOD 9/19/14. Pours dark as a starless night. Above average head volume, average lacing and retention. Very rich nose of milk chocolate with chocolate malt notes underneath. Full bodied with a rich creamy texture. Slightly above average carbonation with a touch of effervescence in the middle and a reasonable burst for this viscosity on the finish. The very rich taste profile is intense, not very complex but well balanced. It begins with a sweet milk chocolate explosion that slowly fades into a mild bitterness in the middle. The bitterness is a blend of roast and hops. As it begins, the chocolate malt notes of the nose are evident. The finish leaves a nice moderate alcohol burn at the back of the throat. As the chocolate and bitterness fade, a light grain alcohol flavor emerges.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber opened on Thanksgiving 2014....bottled 2010 so most of hoppy edge should be gone....think it is.
Nose is chocolate x 4.....wow. Some malted milk / malt edge to it but almost all chocolate....probably added 2 pounds sniffing it. Wonderful.
Taste while still pretty cold is the same...chocolate with, what is that, vanilla? edge...
Chocolate lingers....and lingers....excellent!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black body with a light brown head. Aroma is a complete chocolate bomb, smells like ST dissolved chocolate brownies in a stout. Taste is also a ton of chocolate, with light notes of roast, burnt sugars and molasses. I personally think the chocolate was a bit overdone in this- I would have liked this to be more roasty.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Black body with a nice creamy brown head. (4+) Big chocolate aroma, tootsie roll and ovaltine (in a good way). Sweet underlying malt. Flavour is sweet with more of the tootsie roll like chocolate character, very mild roasty malt. (7+) Light bitterness in the finish keeps it from becoming cloying. Smooth medium to full bodied palate

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark root beer colored beer with a thin beige head that is really nothing more than a surface film. Rich, luxurious nose of deep dark chocolate, vanilla bean, and cream soda. Flavor is more of the same, but even richer with beautiful roasted grain and some fairly pronounced coffee notes. It finishes sweet rather than bitter, which fits the flavor profile, but the roasted flavor counterbalances a bit. Medium-bodied, it lacks the viscous quality of some stronger stouts, despite the high ABV. Good beer.

I’m a fan of chocolate stouts, imperial or otherwise. I luv Samuel Smith Organic Chocolate Stout, and I like a few others. This is quite comparable to the Organic Chocolate Stout, but has less of a chocolate smell and taste. It does have a slightly more alcoholic flavor, but it’s well below what you would expect from a 10% ABV imperial stout. The way it feels in the mouth is wonderful. Creamy, and slick. The aftertaste was where I did get hit with the alcohol the most - but I’m noticing I’m a bit sensitive to the taste.
Overall I’d say this is a wonderful Imperial Stout, and it’s pretty easy drinking. I enjoyed it immensely, and I plan on trying to locate another bottle before the fall/winter pass. overall a #win.
