4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Smells like a brownie or a chocolate muffin. Deep black, with a tan head that fades to a ring of off-white suds. Tastes like a brownie with burnt (roasted malt) edges. Super chocolatey goodness.

I’m a fan of chocolate stouts, imperial or otherwise. I luv Samuel Smith Organic Chocolate Stout, and I like a few others. This is quite comparable to the Organic Chocolate Stout, but has less of a chocolate smell and taste. It does have a slightly more alcoholic flavor, but it’s well below what you would expect from a 10% ABV imperial stout. The way it feels in the mouth is wonderful. Creamy, and slick. The aftertaste was where I did get hit with the alcohol the most - but I’m noticing I’m a bit sensitive to the taste.
Overall I’d say this is a wonderful Imperial Stout, and it’s pretty easy drinking. I enjoyed it immensely, and I plan on trying to locate another bottle before the fall/winter pass. overall a #win.

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2014 From a 22 oz bottle. Amazing dark chocolate aroma, truly exceptional smell. Extremely dark, basically midnight black. Head sticks around, nice consistency. Sweet, dark chocolate flavor. Too sweet?

Poured a dark brown to black colour with a short toffee head. Aroma is rich of chocolate, coffee(after warming up a bit)and vanilla. Flavor is of chocolate, roasted malts with a slight bitterness on the finish. Alcohol is well hidden in this heavy bodied brew. Great chocolate beer. Only second to one other.

Pours black with a thin, tan head. Aroma has milk chocolate, some roast , some caramel, and a tad of coffee. Very thick and rich. Taste is a sweet. Milk chocolate, roasted notes. Very little alcohol taste but a good warmth. Smooth rich and creamy. Overall an awesome chocolate beer. Lots of chocolate but not too sweet. Well done.

On tap at some random arcade game bar in Dallas. Pours a pitch black with minimal head. Nose smells like an alcoholic chocolate protein shake mixed with chocolate brownies. Fuck loads of chocolate. Taste is super chocolatey and tad sweet. Can taste the booze a bit. A pint of this fucked me up. If you love chocolate this is the beer for you

If Willy Wonka were a beer geek, this would probably be his beer I imagine. Hard to think that a brewer could fit this much chocolate aroma/flavor into a beer and not make it a train wreck, but Southern Tier nails it (again). A rich, decadent aroma of chocolate. Just pure, unadulterated chocolate. Flavor...more chocolate...dark chocolate, combined with a heavy dose of Capt. Black’s pipe tobacco (vanilla). The roast is noticeable but there as a supporting role for the chocolate (chocolate and coffee are great pairings) and is happy to do so here. My only nitpick was the mouthfeel could have had a fuller feel, maybe more velvety smooth...I wonder if they added oatmeal to this? A world class beer.
