Commercial Description:
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 10.0% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

Bomber. Strange brew, indeed. Small offwhite head thats short lived. An almost black colored brew ceptin for the slight ruby red glow goin on. Nose is laced with caramel, lots! Vanilla and faint coffee roast. Body is med/full, silky on the palate with a soft carbonation and somewhat chalky. Lotsa vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, coffeeish, sweet malts, coconut, Impy Stout?? Got me, cant find it! Sweet, all the above in the friggin finish. Not disgusting but damn close i think?? Hmmmmmmm.

The Vanilla of Choklat. So nice and rich and smooth. A lot of alcohol present but it doesn’t bother me. A bit hot but all the sweetness really takes over. A lot of vanilla, like an adult vanilla milk shake. Like a spiked vanilla candy martini beer.

Black pour with no head. Very distinct vanilla nose with some caramel. Tastes very much like a Worther’s Original candy. Smooth finish. Almost not like a beer, as with the rest of the Blackwater Series.

This was amazing. One of the most unique beers I’ve had recently. Imaginative, unique and impressive. Had this at my wedding reception and again when I returned to Ohio. Heavy vanilla aroma with milk chocolate undertones. Gorgeous dark brown color with creamy nitro-like head that sticks around. Flavor is chocolate, coffee (hints), toffee, carmel, and vanilla. Literally, it tastes like someone poured stout over a creme brulee and served it to me. In fact, if you’ve never had creme brulee, don’t even bother rating this until you’ve had it so you can properly rate the uniqueness of the beer. Well done Southern TIer.

Pours dark brown with a tan/off white head. Smells of caramel, chococlate, cocoa, lots of vanilla. Tastes sweet and chococlatey with lots of vanilla and spiciness. Not my thing, but decent.

Pour is dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma and taste are similarly ridiculous. Lots of caramel, butterscotch, lactose, over the top sweet malt. It’s hard to tell this is even a beer. Mouth is smooth and creamy. This is the 2nd ST brew that I really didn’t care for. And this one was really bad. I was probably good for 6oz. and that was all.

Great good god, another overwhelming pretentious Impy. Nose must be pulled rom glass and then it assaults you with a tsunami of vailla and wet slimy oakiness. Creamy? Clotted cream and margarine tones followed by vomitouriously sweet malts lead up to a lingering burnt finish. Not sure iof they are attempting to over impress me or kill me. Thin head dissipates expediously on top of the deep deep brown. Very little light gets thru the glass. Droopy consistent lacing. I finished half the bomber and poured the rest. Enough is enough. After thinking about this trainwreck I had to re rate and lower my score.

22 oz. bottle. Dark brown, large creamy tan head, fine, reticulated lace. Lots of caramel in the aroma, but big doses of chocolate and vanilla fight for prominence. Thick and smooth mouthfeel, full body, lots of richness. Quite sweet, but in a good way, and a very subtle bitterness is welcome at the finish.
