COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 9.6% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

Dark pour, not very thick. thin tan head. Nose is strong on this one. Caramel, vanilla. Certainly on the sweet side in the taste, almost artificial. Very nice to share, but hard to finish alone.

Intense creme brulee aroma. Think, mouth coating body. Luckily not as sweet as the aroma indicates. Unique, really enjoyable in moderation.

I read their description of this beer 3 times and can't figure it out. Black pour with white head. Smells like a pile butterscotch. Crazy sweet. A great dessert. Not a dock beer like I am doing it

One of the finest beers I've ever head. Walked into the bar and it smelt like Christmas and candles. It has a smooth sweet taste and taste like food. Pretty much a liquid sin! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer smells awesome. Exactly lIke creme brûlée. Or vanilla extract. The taste is the same up front, but too bitter on the end. I’m going to throw one in a cellar for about a year and re-rate.

On tap at the brewery. 8oz serving. A - Pours pitch black with a small tan head that sinks pretty quick. S - Awesome! Sugar vanilla, densely sweet, caramelized butterscotch, hints off coffee, fake maple syrup, vanilla cake batter. Smells like a sweet dessert. T - Rich and sweet all happen at once. Milk chocolate and super sweet vanilla just run over the palate like syrup. Super sweet cupcake batter, chocolate syrup, lots of vanilla flavored alcohol, although the alcohol barely comes through. Finishes sweet and sticky. M - Dense, heavy syrupy body, low carbonation, cloyingly sweet. This smells great but the flavor is way to cloying to have more than 4 to 6 oz at a time. One of the sweetest beers I’ve had. I’d like to mix this with a solid stout to cut the sweetness down a bit. Good for a 4oz dessert cap. Serving type: on-tap 08-28-2012

Wow. This is good, in a sugar bomb sort of way, but truly lives up to its namesake. Strong sugary aroma. Taste is 90% creme brûlée, and the remainder -- surprisingly -- complex malt underneath (though you have to look for it). Southern Tier did an amazing job here -- the roastiness from the base stout combines with the sugary sweet notes of the milk to truly make a creme brûlée stout. Very highly recommended! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft - pours dark brown with khaki head and good lacing. Nose is fitting for the name of the beer. Flavor adds vanilla and chocolate mousse. Well balanced. Complex and desserty.
