COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 9.6% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

Pours a black with a light brown head. Aroma is a birthday cake frosting. Flavor is very very sweet and tastes like frosting. The name describes exactly what it is. Well done.

22oz bottle. just released. pours thin dark brown with small off white head that didn’t last long. this is extremely aromatic and they nailed the creme brulee aroma, tons of vanilla! this is loaded with vanilla flavor as well, some lactose, debittered expresso, and graham cracker. alcohol is well hidden but the body is pretty thin. more like liquid creme brulee than a beer but I’m sure many will really get into this one.

Bottle from Asahiya or CBB. I thought I’d rated this a long time ago... anyways, this dessert beer poured a dark inky black with a tan head. The aroma was of a lush freshly baked creme brule. The taste had a bit more of a stout quality to the creme brule and it was exceptionally sweet. It pairs very well with vanilla ice cream, cheesecake and other sweets. Trying to drink a whole bomber in one shot has me thinking it would get exceptionally cloying over time. All in all a well made dessert beer.

"AS ADVERTISED is the key here. Sweet? Check. tastes just like liquified creme brulee? check. can’t knock a beer for tasting exactly like it says on the label. if you like CB, you’ll like this beer. If it’s a favorite like for me, you’ll love this beer. Burnt sugar, vanilla custard. Yum! I will concede it would be hard to drink a lot of this, but that wasn’t really the point.

Bottle. Fine, so I have a sweet tooth. What of it? Pours opaque black, medium brown head, creamy with nice lacing. Aroma is vanilla chocolate roasty caramel. Flavor is very sweet indeed, tons of vanilla, chocolate, toasted marshmallow, caramel, toffee, hard candies. A respectable amount of bitterness to bring things a bit back toward balanced. Medium body. Enjoyable for what it is.

22oz bottle. Butterscotch aroma, sweet. Black with red tint and beige head. Taste is sweet and butterscotch plus a little vanilla. Much too sweet for me.

Like drinking a tub of butterscotch with caramel sauce. Sickeningly sweet. Intolerable. Drain pour. We tried giving it away at the bar, and no one would take it.

(trade w/Olking) what an aroma! Smelled the wonderful sugary sweetness of Creme Brule as soon as I opened the bottle. Small tan head which is pretty much gone now. Somewhat thick body. Flavors of brown sugar, vanilla, and caramel with a boozy backend that lingers on the palate. Perhaps a little too boozy than I?d like. I’ve been wanting to try this for a few years. Now wish I had traded for several bottles!

From tap. Dark brown with small beige head. Hot damn, does this beer nail its title. Blindfolded, you’d swear you were smelling eponymous dessert. Strong smells of french vanilla flavoring, icing, brown sugar, etcetera. Taste follows, though at a slightly reduced intensity. If you plug your nose, all you get is sweet. Thick and heavy. Cloying. Well executed (I think this is exactly what ST wanted to brew), but unfinishable. More marvel than beer.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer & Beyond, Tel Aviv. Dark brown with quickly diminishing low beige head. Heavy mocha aroma, milk chocolate, toffee, vanilla, sweet. Heavy vanilla flavor, medium sweet, mocha, notes of coffee, low bitterness. spicy, complex. The alcohol is well hidden. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Full body. Very nice.

Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice Appearance – Served a black colored beer with a one finger tan head that fades over a moderate amount of time. Upon fading a nice level of lacing is left on the glass. Smell – The smell is sweet and delicious, like crème brule in a cup. Big aromas a sweet milk, caramel and a lighter vanilla are complemented well by some dark chocolate and roasted coffee smells. Taste – The taste begins with sweet vanilla and caramel mixed with a roasted malt flavor. Soon flavors of chocolate come to the tongue and bitter the very sweet start. The flavors meld very well at this point and are only complemented and accentuated by a roasted coffee flavor the enters the taste profile more toward the end. Along with the coffee is some alcohol booziness, which when mixed with the other tastes leaves a warming and satisfying taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is rather thick with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. The thickness and creaminess of the body coats the mouth, bathing the taste buds in the sweet and roasted flavors, really allowing then to be individually distinguished and makes for a nice drinking brew. Overall – A nice sipper after dinner for dessert. The flavors transition well and complement each other nicely. A good sweet stout if I must say.
