COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 9.6% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

A good stout. A little sweet in flavor for my taste. Very dark in appearance. Quite creamy in taste as well.

22 oz bottle from a friend The stout poured a pitch black with small tan head that quickly dissipated and no lacing. The aroma of hazelnuts and vanilla greet you and never leaves you. The first sip was of sweet vanilla. This experience is like having a sweet desert and not a stout. This would be wonderful on dry cakes with ice cream. The stout has a medium body with soft carbonation. The sweet taste may appeal to some, but for me this is just too sweet for me..

On tap at SS. Super sweet. Guess it achieves what it is going for but just too sweet to be enjoyable. Least favorite of the blackwater series.

Pours a deep dark brown from a bottle with a small khaki head with largish bubbles. Aroma is of a caramel vanilla sundae, flavor is somewhat similar, but in float form sitting in moxie. Good beer.

Aroma of overload vanilla, wood, faint smoke, butterscotch, caramel, and some figs and raisins. This is quite sweet, but still quite thin. Taste is vanilla, waay too much vanilla, a bitterness that I could only identify as vanilla bean bitterness, some wood astringency as well.

Bomber from Captain Jack’s in Bismarck. Appearance: slight tan head, black color, opaque, film of head remains. Aroma: chocolate, roast, vanilla, very sweet aroma, creme brulee! Palate: full body, soft carbonation, oily texture, bitter finish. Taste: sweet chocolate and vanilla with some alcohol coming through almost immediately, dark chocolate bitterness coming in on the end. Super good, very nice beer, really enjoyable.
