5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 eboats (1054) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JUL 12, 2010
Holy Shit! This is the first time I have done this, but I can only say that the commercial description does this one true justice. Simply outstanding. This brings me back to why I started drinking craft beer. Just blown away....
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.
By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 10.0% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

Bottle poured in a tulip galss, black with a seemingly liquid mocha head Aroma was extremely dominating & out of this world fantastic, sticky & sweet, crème brûlée, condensed milk, ice cream, vanilla pudding, caramelized sugar, caramel, milk, touch of booze when cold but not when room temperature, tastes is extremely sweet, you can almost feel liquid white sugar, crème brûlée, vanilla pudding, condensed milk, vanilla ice cream, slight porter aftertaste. I can still taste it, this remains an incredible experience for anyone who has a sweet tooth, this is pure liquid super-condensed desert. Not a beer for after shoveling the snow this is a true sipper and not for everyone but right for me yesterday.

Shared bottle @ Cardinal. Again - "WOW". This is really an amazing beer, and the skills behind this craft ale must be admired! To have a imperial stout taste like this is a wonderful feat. It pors whick with a dark tan head, dark as night in color. As you sniff in the aromas you’ll expect the usual dark malts and strong aromas of the imperial stout. But no, not with this one. The aromas are filled with.... Creme brulee... Vanilla and burnt brown sugar and some mild flavors from the malts. The alcohol is really well masked, as you can’t sense the 9,6%. The body is rich and the somewhat oily in mouthfeel. This is a beer you’ll enjoy and share with a good friend or partner on a cold day in front of the fireplace, or have it as a dessert after dinner. Recommended to everybody that likes creme brulee!
4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 sunnyridge (222) - USA - APR 6, 2010
This is an amazing beer. It would seem only the devil himself could make a beer like this. I mean how does it taste and smell so much like actual creme brulee???? WTF?? The only fair complaint about this beer is how rich it is, which might also be ones only complaint about creme brulee, so they truly matched this beer to its namesake in all ways. Wow.
4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 unclemattie (3239) - Georgia, USA - SEP 21, 2011
22oz bottle. Black pour, white head. OMG> What and aroma! IT IS 100% Crème Brûlée! Huge vanilla. Nothing but custard and vanilla in the nose. Tastes of burnt sugars. The hops add to the roast of the grain in the beer. All of which push upward all of the flavor of the burnt sugar crust. Oily texture, WTH, tastes of the custard texture. How can a beer taste this great, Magic? So spectacular. This is the most impressive dessert beer ever made. Ever. Flawless, Pure Ecstasy. My 3100th Rating.
4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 TonyDiUlio (630) - New Jersey, USA - DEC 13, 2009
UPDATED: OCT 2, 2010 New Rate: so this brew is amazing. I cant believe i had it so low. The aroma is so sweet and delicious. The flavor really take control in your mouth. The chocolates and malts are so sweet. The best desert beer o have ever tried.
Original Rating: So I was never really a stout guy. Then Southern Tier comes along and rocks my world. Now its saying a lot that my least favorite Southern Tier stout is still a 3.9. Try the others. They are even better. This beer is just like it sounds in both aroma and taste. Its creme brulee in beer form. Very good.
4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Cobra (1076) - In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA - AUG 15, 2008
An absolute wonder of brewing technology. 22 oz. brown bomber bottle. $7.99 each at a local watering hole. Poured out a deep chocolate brown, with a mocha colored head. Aromas are fandamntastic. Cre’me Brulee, with vanilla, butterscotch, caramel, souffle, all mixed into one beer. Egg nog, Christmas cake, and rum soaked fruit round out the aromas.
Flavors are burnt sugars, vanilla beans, caramel, butterscotch, chocolate pudding, some malts, and a sweet component. Mouthfeel is phenomenal, with rich, swirling dessert notes mixed in. Total bliss, flavor wise. A top notch effort from ST.
