Commercial Description:
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 10.0% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

22oz bottle. Pours black with thick creamy head that leaves some beautiful lacing. Huge aroma of butterscotch and burnt toffee. The flavor is as advertised. All the qualities of crème brûlée are here: creamy butterscotch, toffee, caramelized sugar, vanilla, lactose. Insane. There’s also coffee, bitter hops, chocolate, and roasted malts. Medium bodied, slightly fizzy, and a subtle bitter finish. Not my cup of tea, and certainly my least favorite of the series. But if you love the real thing, then you might like this brew.

Bottle. Pours black with big foamy head. Taste is spot on for creme brulee, lots of vanilla and sweetness, I really loved this.

Bottle. Pours clear black with red tint and tan head. Taste is sweet, aromas have vanilla, burnt sugar, caramel, very much like its name-sake.

22 oz bottle from Somewhere. The smell is so overwhelming that it’s almost impossible to tell what it tastes like. Neat trick, but it seems like more of novelty than anything else. Scored so high because of how accurately it mimics creme brulee.

Thanks Greg for sending this one along because I would have never bought it but in the back of my mind did want to try it. Bottle poured into a snifter produced a tan head that did lace rather well. The body of the brew was a typical black stout color. I will say the nose did make the brew. It had an incredible amount of vanilla wafting up from the glass and it made it rather soothing. Now thing just go down hill from there the flavor to me was just too sweet. It reminded me of a cordial and if I drank it that way it might have worked but having a glass to work thru was too much not to mention a bottle. The feel was good the carbonation was on but I can’t get past the sweetness. I say if you have a bottle split it among ten people and everyone might enjoy it but don’t try to do the bottle yourself. It is just to one dimensional

Holy vanilla! It smells like pure vanilla extract. Pours deep dark brown with minimal carbonation. Malty, sweet with loads of toffee and vanilla. It’s tasty, but not something to drink a lot of. Totally dessert.

Bottle. First off this is a dessert beer, not a lawnmower beer and needs to be rated accordingly. Aroma is toffee and vanilla through the roof. Simply amazing nose. First sip is toffee, finish is a bit bitter. Bitterness wanes as drunken, becoming very sweet. Good oily mouthfeel. This beer should be split by 3-4 people after a nice meal. I’ll take it over a "real" dessert any day.

Pours black with a soapy thin tan head about 1/4 inch. Decent lacing on the glass. Nothing spectacular. Smell, you can smell this as soon as you pop the cap. Vanilla, melted coffee icecream and booze. Taste, the best way i can describe this is Baileys Irish Cream on the rocks. If i close my eyes thats what i would swear i was drinking. Vanilla, coffee icecream, and a lot of alcohol. This is bozzier then i thought it would be. However it is 10%abv according to the bottle. But yea, Baileys on the rocks. Mouthfeel is smooth at first and then ou get an alcohol blast of warth on the back of your tongue all the way down your throat. Average carbonation. Drinkability is tricky to rate with this one. It’s tasty and enjoyable. However i have no desire to drink another one anytime soon. Nothing against the beer i just feel it’s more of a novelty then anything. Not to say it’s a bad beer because it’s not. Overall this is a tasty, sweet treat from Southern Tier. I’ve heard you either love or hate this beer. I disagree. I don’t love it or hate it. I really like it though.

Bottle. Real interesting brew. I have had a few Crème Brûlée stouts before, but this one really pushed the boundaries. The first time I tried this, I was completely overwhelmed by the copious amount of aroma and flavor that this brew offered. The aroma was rich with vanilla, cream, and sweetness, while the flavor was smack in the face sweet vanilla. From the second time trying this beer and through the next many times, the flavors seemed to blend ever so much more together making a beer that truly tasted like the dessert. This was a really great beer, and I have a few stashed away in my secret stash. I would give this a try if you see it. It will push your boundaries.
