COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 9.6% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

Great. Bomber poured to a glass shaker. Pours a opaque black with a thin tan head. The vanilla really comes out, but isn’t overpowering. Delicious.

Pours dark inky brown, completely black in the glass, with a large tan head, excellent retention. Strong sweet butterscotch, cream, and vanilla aroma. Full body, creamy, smooth, lightly dry, a little hot and boozy. Medium sweet, a little citrus, medium bitter finish. While they certainly nailed Creme Brulee, at this point, it tastes somewhat chemically flavored. I suspect it would be better bottle aged at least 6 months to mellow.

651 ml. bottle. Bottled 12/15/15. 10% ABV per the label. Pours a medium thick, tiny bubbled, well retained, light beige head, over a clear, dark brown (SRM 25) body.......nose is heavy vanilla, cocoa, chocolate, light dried fruits......taste is heavily sweet, with lactose, brown sugar, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, toffee/caramel, becoming slightly dried, with mild hop bitterness, balance to the adjuncts and additives......mouth feel, medium sticky body, alcohol heat present, carbonation low with light acid. This is on the dessert end of the Imperial Stout range, and that is of course what the brewers were attempting to achieve, and they got there. Unfortunately it is too manufactured to be a great Imperial Stout within the style, as the multitude of additives are quite dominant and muddle up the contribution of the base malts, hops and yeast. BJCP 5/3/10/4/6

22oz bottle at home. Smells like desert. Wow. Butterscotch, vanilla. Very rich, so splitting a bottle is just fine.

BOD 12/15/15. Pours black. Outstanding head volume and retention, world class lacing. World class rich nose of vanilla, cream and light caramel. It screams crème brulee. Underneath is a light coconut aspect. Medium body with a smooth texture that has creamy moments. Carbonation is world class with a perfect body / carbonation balance that really allows the complex flavors to open up. The middle has a burst of effervescence while the finish is pricky and finely bubbled. The flavor profile is quite outstanding. Had the alcohol remained covered and suppressed the very slight astringency, it would be world class. It begins with a wave of vanilla that floats above cream then shifts to vanilla over caramel. The middle has a hint of roast oriented bitterness underneath. From the middle to the finish, chocolate and coconut notes emerge. The finish is a slow sweet fade of slightly sweet vanilla with a touch of alcohol flavor and astringency.

Artifical vanilla and caramel aroma. Big tan head. This really does not taste good for me. This tastes kind of sweet in a saccharine sort of way. Would not drink again.

Dark oily pour, thin cream head. Aroma is a strong sweet cream, maybe one of the more distinct initial notes I’ve seen. Flavor is a roasted marshmallow, with a sweet, creme brulee finish. Very unique, very good.
