Pours a dark amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of oak, caramel malts, and some toffee. Flavor is very oaky with caramel and toffee notes at first. Finishes a little bitter with some warming. A little more oak then the first series, a little on the verge of being too much.

Pours clear deep copper with thin off white to tan head. The aroma is cherry, prunes, chewy malts, some caramel and a light note of vanilla. The taste is smooth and sweet to start moving into prunes and raisins and mixing with malt sweetness, a faint note of caramel and vanilla. The mild oak notes show up into the finish. Nice Stuff.

Bottle. Pours a hazy amber brown with a nice beigh head. Aroma of caramel, oak, vanilla, raisins and some dark fruit. Flavor was smooth and balanced with sweet caramel, oaky vanilla, dark fruit, molasses, raisins and had a nice sticky warming alcohol finish.

Bottle; thanks to my mom and sister. Poured a nice auburn like color with a small, but long lasting, dark tan/khaki head. Aroma is one I really like; cookie dough, oak, dark fruit, caramel, alcohol, brown sugar and earthiness in the end. Flavor was not quite as nuanced, but I still really enjoyed it. Alcohol quite hidden. Caramel, dark fruit, oak, vanilla, cookie dough, and some earthiness. Very easy to drink. I really liked it.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 Derek881 (855) - Frederick, Maryland, USA - JUN 1, 2009
The first of several beers I enjoyed on tap at my last trip to Max’s On Broadway in Baltimore. The beer had a dark amber-copper color with a big creamy, thick off-white head that had good cling and retention. The beer had pine and citrus hops in the aroma, with a sugary, roasty malt and caramel mix too with a touch of raisin and fruits. The taste was sweet, malty and a bit fruity with some raisin and a touch of bitterness too. The body was very full and creamy, with a medium-wet mouthfeel and moderate carbonation; served slightly chilled. A very good, flavorful beer.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 jonno (2001) - JAPAN - JAN 25, 2010
Nose was huge - a bit of everything. Alcohol, chocolate, vanilla and oak (of course). In the mouth it is quite sweet. The barrel aging has given the yeast time to really spit out the sweet malt. Quite interesting but just missing that special something to make it truly memorable.

650ml bottle.
Sizeable orange foam sits atop a burnt copper body.
Pungent aroma, oak is really prominant; coconut and toasted wood. Rich biscuity, caramel malts underneath with some pinewood, citrusy American hops.
Thick sticky texture, low carbonation with a very length lingering palate.
Intense flavour; lots of big oak, big caramelised malts, big hop resin and bitterness, and big warming alcohol on the finish. Notes of maple, coconut, bitter orange and leafy hop linger on the finish.
Really full on beer! Could certainly age very well, and would probably benefit from a couple of years in the cellar at this point to level out the oak and bitterness.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a small, off-white head with a hazed amber body sitting beneath. Aroma of pistachio, maple, vanilla, caramel, oak and something a bit buttery (but not really diacetyl). Taste is maple, caramel, burnt flan, peat, a bit bitter, but ends with a sweet breadiness. Syrupy mouthfeel and warming.

Served from a 22 oz bottle from back in The Wine & Cheese Place years ago. The appearance is a ruby brown hue with a small off white to light brown head. The nose is full of grape juice, oak, vanilla wafers, and a sprinkle of nutmeg. The flavors are malty with sweet caramelized brown sugar, creme brulee for sure. Oak spice and snikerdoodles. Luscious creamy body with a mild intensity oak spice. After have forgetting about this for some time the Series 1 being a mediocre brew I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by this beer.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 McGarnigle (493) - Rochester, New York, USA - MAR 8, 2013
Bomber that was on sale (but still $9). If getting rid of the box would drop the price, I’d do it. I haven’t had the others in this series. but I like this. Kinda sweet, not bitter, nor roasty. Creamy with some vanilla. All the edges are worn off this ale. They say nougat, and I think they’re right. Excellent.
