22 oz. bottle via trade with tytoanderso - Pours a clear mahogany color with a 1/2 finger thick light tan head. Faint spotty lacing. Aroma and flavor is full of esters and toasted malt. Didn’t get much oak. The esters really linger in the finish. Medium to full body. A good beer, but not as good as the first two. Thanks Tyler. GO STEELERS!

Unique. Tasted much more like a lager in its expression. Light bodied, slightly red, with lots of fruity taste. Very easy to drink and slightly sweet taste and after taste. Some toffee and caramel notes but mostly fruity, and very drinkable. I highly enjoyed this beer because it was very good at having a different taste.

On tap at the Blind Pig, Champaign, IL. This should probably be classified as an American-Belgian strong ale. As a result, there’s definitely some unique qualities to this one. The pour was nice with a caramel cream head, wispy retention, and a deep amber-brown appearance. The aroma was very nutty. I’m not sure I’ve ever describes a beer as having a predominantly nutty quality to it but here it is. Notes of almonds, pecans, and nut cookie. Also, some berries, mild sweet fruit, caramel, darker woody grain malts, and light citrus. A strong feel, but well balanced. A high degree of bitterness, yet grainy sugar sweet at the same time. In the flavor, lots of Belgian toasted nutty caramel cookie malts, woody earth, some sweet mild fruits, citrus, and a light brown sugar spice. The finish is fairly sugary. Overall, this was a unique concoction with a lot of good things going for it. I liked.

Clear, light ruby color. No head. Huge fruit smell -- Apples, Pears, and Plum. Some yeast also. Taste is overwhelmingly sweet. Lots of Pear and Apple cider qualities. Also lots of caramel and roast characteristics. It’s almost too sweet, like drinking straight syrup. Very rich and sticky mouth feel.

Draft… Clear copper ale with a small, creamy, white head. The bouquet consists of raw, wet, white oak with hints of bourbon and caramel. Full-bodied and syrupy with tickling carbonation. The flavor is all about caramel, caramel and caramel with a drop of honey. Big time under-attenuated, but nice raw oak and alcoholic bitterness salvages the experience. Finishes sweet and caramely with a touch of woody bitterness.

A reddish burgundy barley wine with no head. In aroma, fruity esters with burned caramel notes, treacle, light alcohol. In mouth, a smooth sweet barley wine with loads of warming alcohol, candy sugar, oily and viscous, lacking some complexity. On tap at Datz, Jan. 8 2011.

Bomber from Liquor Loft. Clear orange-brown pour with a thin light tan head that leaves a ring. Aroma is apricot, floral, caramel, dough and vanilla. Taste is sweet up front: dark fruits, molasses, and coconut. Wood and nuts come through later. Way too sweet for my tastes. Palate is medium with little carbonation. Alcohol is noticeable both in taste and warmth - but not offensively so.

bomber. pours a blood / crimson red with a small off white head that fades quickly. nice oak, vanilla, dark fruit and slight whiskey notes across the nose, but it starts to fall apart with the pronounced sweetness that seeps through. full body that is incredibly sweet & syrupy throughout. cherries, raisins, dates and bubblegum come forward towards the front. there are some really nice flavors going on, along with more oak and vanilla notes - however the cloying sweetness really makes this hard to drink - especially on the finish. a jumbled sweet mess on the end. I’m not sure what they mean by "slightly sweet". Not sure I can finish this bottle...

draft - Amber pour with a small off white head. It smells of oak and sweet caramel malt. The flavor is very sweet, almost syrupy, with considerable oak flavor and unfortunately a bit of a band aid character. There’s a little fruit in there too. This one is alright, but it’s almost cloyingly sweet and I’m not sure what’s with that band aid I’m picking up.

courtesy of tyto, thanks! nice crisp crimson pour with a spongey yellow head. this is an interesting beer, and i like it. lots of nice spices, a more subtle im-pils like sweetness, it has lots of wood and spirit, and has a very nice sweet malt profile underneath, with an almost lager like crispness and lightness in the midbody. the after taste is sweet and syrupy, earthy with a touch a smoke. there is a good amount of abv showing up here, but it should mellow out nicely over the next year or so. definitely a sweet, boozy brew, but interesting and yummy.
