Deep amber pour, little to no head. Aroma of coconut, vanilla, earthy hops. Some almond and pistachio. Flavor has a candy-ish hop towards the front which melds to coconut and vanilla from the oak. A fair cherry and peach note appears as it warms a bit. Sweetness is apparent, but perhaps not as much as Cuvee 2. Still quite a bit. Some boozy heat in the finish. Overall, this is better than I expected. Still sweet and boozy, but not as much as some other Southern Tier beers, or for that matter, many, many highly rated beers.

Bottle. Poured clear ruby color with a moderate frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted caramel malt, wood with a small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet & wood finish of moderate to long duration. This beer exceeded my expectations.

Bottle, as pictured. While I wasn’t a huge huge fan of the first two, I figured I’d have to get one of these to complete the trifecta. As I expected, sadly, the taste of Cuvee 2 overpowered Cuvee 1 (I preferred 1). Pours a deep ruby red with very little carbonation. The bubbles in the glass appear almost suspended in the liquid. Smell is strong oak, boozy smell....kinda smells like Southern Comfort, to me. Taste is wood, cherry, vanilla....but there’s a strange, somewhat unpleasant aftertaste. Not sure what to make of this. Maybe not the best at the moment....could get better with age.

Pours a crystal clear deep amber with a small wispy beige head that recedes quickly to a thin collar. Aroma is strong and sweet. Starts with lots of vanilla and spicy oak, then some caramel and coconut. Definitely some fruits, alcohol-soaked pears maybe. The taste is even sweeter and with a big alcohol kick. I’m getting even more coconut and almonds, which I didn’t get in the aroma. Vanilla, caramel and raisins bringing the sweetness before the finish which is all about the dry French oak. The mouthfeel is medium bodied but feels heavier because of the alcohol, which is certainly not hidden. Given the spectacular blends out there (FW especially), this one isn’t all that impressive. If you’re a fan of oak-heavy, sweet, boozy strong ales, this will be right up your alley.

Pours a darker amber color with a light tan head. Aroma is of oak, caramel malts, dark fruits, and some alcohol. Flavor is full of oak up front which then gives way to the dark fruits. Finish is bitter with a decent amount of alcohol warming. Probably my favorite of the series.

Bottle. Pours amber red with a thin bubbly head. Vanilla and cherry fruity aroma, with some candy like sweetness. The flavor has sweet candy cherry notes, vanilla, almond, some malty sweetness, and light oaky notes. A little on the boozy side and a lot on the sweet side, but still delicious.

Pours bright red and extremely clear, minimal head. Aroma is tart, cherry, strawberry, Belgian candy, mild hops and oak. Flavor is very fruit - cherry, sherry, candy, dry finish with mild roast. Oak flavor is moderately present. Slightly unbalanced and sweet. Overall a good sipper with residual alcohol warmth that is not apparent in the taste. Palate is fairly light.
