A reddish burgundy barley wine with no head. In aroma, fruity esters with burned caramel notes, treacle, light alcohol. In mouth, a smooth sweet barley wine with loads of warming alcohol, candy sugar, oily and viscous, lacking some complexity. On tap at Datz, Jan. 8 2011.

Bomber from Liquor Loft. Clear orange-brown pour with a thin light tan head that leaves a ring. Aroma is apricot, floral, caramel, dough and vanilla. Taste is sweet up front: dark fruits, molasses, and coconut. Wood and nuts come through later. Way too sweet for my tastes. Palate is medium with little carbonation. Alcohol is noticeable both in taste and warmth - but not offensively so.

bomber. pours a blood / crimson red with a small off white head that fades quickly. nice oak, vanilla, dark fruit and slight whiskey notes across the nose, but it starts to fall apart with the pronounced sweetness that seeps through. full body that is incredibly sweet & syrupy throughout. cherries, raisins, dates and bubblegum come forward towards the front. there are some really nice flavors going on, along with more oak and vanilla notes - however the cloying sweetness really makes this hard to drink - especially on the finish. a jumbled sweet mess on the end. I’m not sure what they mean by "slightly sweet". Not sure I can finish this bottle...

draft - Amber pour with a small off white head. It smells of oak and sweet caramel malt. The flavor is very sweet, almost syrupy, with considerable oak flavor and unfortunately a bit of a band aid character. There’s a little fruit in there too. This one is alright, but it’s almost cloyingly sweet and I’m not sure what’s with that band aid I’m picking up.

courtesy of tyto, thanks! nice crisp crimson pour with a spongey yellow head. this is an interesting beer, and i like it. lots of nice spices, a more subtle im-pils like sweetness, it has lots of wood and spirit, and has a very nice sweet malt profile underneath, with an almost lager like crispness and lightness in the midbody. the after taste is sweet and syrupy, earthy with a touch a smoke. there is a good amount of abv showing up here, but it should mellow out nicely over the next year or so. definitely a sweet, boozy brew, but interesting and yummy.

Tallahassee, Fl - Liquor Loft - 22 oz bomber. Dark amber, tea colored pour with a slight bubbly off-white head. Aroma is sweetish with hints of vanilla and a back end of molasses. Flavor presents the same sweetness with some dates. molasses, vanilla, coconut and just a hint of the oak it was aged in. Not too sweet to become cloying, but 12 oz would have been enough. Mouthfeel is slightly sticky, but not thick enough. Alcohol is hidden well.

Meh...typical of this series this beer is a sweet cloying mess. Aroma was strong and peppery with cherry candy notes. Pour was a nice clear deep red with no bubbles and a thin off white ring for a head. Taste was big and sweet. Cherry cough syrup with a slight woodiness. Brown sugar, sweet malt and oak all meld together. Very thin mouthfeel. Strong booziness with the sticky sweetness coating the top of the mouth and throat. Blah

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of burnt caramel, slight vanilla, slight maple, toffee, and toasted sugars. Poured deep amber/orange in color with a small, off-white head that disappeared, except for around the edges. Clear. Not sparkling. Ok lacing. Flavor is heavily sweet. Tastes of caramel, burnt caramel, toasted sugars, toffee, light vanilla, slight maple, and toasting. Medium body. Average texture. Heavily sweet, caramel, toasting, toasted and burnt sugar finish is too sweet. 11%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

Gotta love the bold, over the top, in your face oak paddling. Thick, sweet, syrupy body--should’ve poured this over waffles.

Bomber from Capone’s. Pours hazy deep copper toward ruby-brownish with 1-finger off-khaki head. Nose is oaky and spirity, very fruity, with some caramelly malt, cacao, and brown sugar notes. Tastes dense and complex on the palate with notes of significant dark-skinned fruit, hops, oaky earthy brown sugar and cacao notes, and a smooth finish.
