3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Solid tan head and lovely dark amber color. Aroma is very sweet and malty with hints of oak and vanilla. Noticeable alcohol in the nose. Very malty and sweet with light oak and fruit notes. I would like this much better if the sweetness was balanced with a stronger oak and/or hop character. Very sweet and under attenuated. Definitely a one-note beer.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared by argo0: Pours a clear deep copper amber with ruby hues and a stringy-lacing off-white head. Has a sweet dark caramel a lightly vinous fruity nose with some berry flavors and a touch of oak. Starts with a sweet chewy dark caramel and strawberry fruitiness with some warming oak complexity before a semi-sweet sticky warming finish. Seems under-attenuated and one-dimensional.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Pour House Grand Central in Tampa. Pours a clear amber with a white head. Nose is malt, booze, some brandy, more booze, dark rock sugar, caramel, some almond, and finally sugar cane. Flavor is about everything promised in the nose. Lots of booze here and the vanilla/ almond/ wood presence is overwhelmed by the cloyingly sweet elements here. Medium in body and boozy in the finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared with Parksy. Dark red-orange, low golden head. Very sweet aroma with the oakiness immediately apparent. Vanilla, coconut cookie, cooked peaches, brandy, brown sugar. Heavy and sticky and sweet. Finishes sweet with some hop bitterness trying to make a showing. A bit too sweet in the end is my only real criticism.

Bottle. Clear copper amber pour with little to no head at all. Aroma is fruit and vegetables with sweetness and wood. Taste is sweet and woody with some vegetables and dark fruit and finishes sweet and bitter. Palate is medium and slick with a dry finish. I like this!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft. Odd, a bit off kilter but still very tasty. The color is entralling. Don’t get too much oak, yum.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Oaked version. Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a dark red-caramel color with a small beige head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was strong sweet pineapple, coconut, vanilla and apple. The flavor was very sweet pineapple, coconut, vanilla, grapefruit and pine with undertones of candied dark fruits. The finish was long and sweet with lingering pineapple, coconut and pine. Thick and full bodied. Amazing.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at the Melting Point in Athens, GA. This sat reddish-brown with almost no head, giving off strong aromas of booze. Flavors followed suit, with brandy out front and finishing notes of cognac, bourbon, and hard candy. Where the aroma proved quite appetizing, however, these flavors left me flat. There’s vanilla in there and a whiff of caramel, but also too much alcohol burn. A decent sipper, but lacking in depth for the abv - get a barleywine instead - and without the satisfying freshness of Southern Tier’s hoppier offerings.
