hotstuff (3019), Indiana, USA May 1, 2008 Bottle courtesy of jsquire. Thanks, Jeff! Poured a small off-white head that mostly lasted, splotchy lacing, hazy, no carbonation noted, and a golden orange hue. The nose consisted of caramel malts, citrus hops, pine, clove, and some pepper. The flavor was that of caramel, lightly bitter, some grapefruit, malt, spicy and the ABV was well masked. Mildly tingly mouthfeel and medium in body. Very quaffable and not over-the-top hoppy tasting IMO, nice balance, and worthy of a try if you get the opportunity.
SpudClampDawg (901), Jasper, Indiana, USA Jul 19, 2008 22oz bottle: Sunrise amber with an impressive two finger head that clings all the way down. Muted nose of grapefruit and orange rind, followed by lighter notes of perfume and rose. Big, creamy mouthfeel delivers shots of caramel sweetness and zesty lemon and orange. Balanced and drinkable, this is a nice blend. I believe the Hoppe I tried was a little fresher and thus more enticing. The hops seem a little to heavy here, but no bottling date makes it hard to tell if it is the brew or the shelf life. Even so, another solid beer for Souther Tier. Oh, and #900, woot. jeffc666 (1820), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Jul 18, 2008 Copper, clear with a medium sized bone colored head. Aroma is packed with hops and some sweetness. Flavor is fun, fun. Sweet at first then a bit of citrus, then lots of bitterness. An interesting beast for sure. radiomgb (1711), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jul 4, 2008 Golden-orange in colour, large off-white coloured head, excellent retention, good lacing. The aroma is very hoppy, quite green, pine, cedar, citrus, caramel malt sweetness. The flavour is moderately sweet, some pink grapefruit citrus, moderate bitterness, some caramel. Sticky and very hoppy mouthfeel, medium/large body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, hoppy, sweet.
It really seems like they ran out of ideas when they made this one. Its good but it falls into the same-old, same-old category when it comes to DIPA’s. Then there is that damn cap....
650ml bottle from IPFreely, thanks Tim.

No date.
oakbluff (190), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Jul 3, 2008 Bomber courtesy of hogtown harry- pours a pale golden hue. Good head and lacing. Nose- earthy smelling with some fruits. Taste- pale malts are really present. Hop flavour is a mix of pine and some tropical fruits. Might be past its prime as I really love Unearthly and Hoppe on their own. The mix is like a poor sequel. More malt flavour than expected. Carbonation is medium and drinkability is good. Very little hotness present given high abv. redlem (1096), Illinois, USA Jul 3, 2008 OK, I majored in polymer chemistry in college and whatever that gold crap covering the cap is, it aint wax. Note to self....never buy Southern Tier again until they take the gold shit off, cause what’s in the bottle is not worth the effort. A very pedesterian take on a tradition of mixing beers. Like most Degustation type meal this means "leftovers." Mixing of two beers is fine but when they are virtually the same thing, why bother. This tastes very plastic, amine-like, in th hop profile which the malts cannot overcome. You got to love a commercial description that does not describe anything about the beer. classic, but not this beer.
