Commercial Description:
Heavy Weizen explores the inner depths of creativity and craftsmanship, taking a style of ale that is delicate and quaffable and shaping it into something exuberant and sturdy. The foundation of Heavy Weizen begins with prodigious quantities of North American malted barley and wheat. Next, the finest European hops are added to complement this ale's unique disposition by giving spicy aromas. Its spirit is forged during fermentation where our Bavarian weizen yeast consumes sugars and creates divine flavors reminiscent of bananas and cloves. Then, by aging this ale, we allow the divergent characteristics to blend together, becoming one. To capture Heavy Weizen's spirit, this wheat ale remains unfiltered to leave some of the yeast in the bottle. Serving this ale with a wedge of lemon is recommended, but optional. 18 plato, 38 IBUs, 2-row pale malt, malted white wheat, hallertau magnum, saaz.

Poured hazy yellow with small off white head. Aroma of some hops, spice, and a little bit of alcohol. Good sweet malt flavor with some hops. Some spice in the finish.

22 oz bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a white head. Aroma is spicy, lots of yeast and cloves. Stronger aroma than a regular hefeweizen, more full, more malty. Tastes spicy, yeasty, very banana-ish. Alcohol is barely apparent, well-hidden. I actually prefer this style to the "regular" hefeweizen, a nice variation, well done.

draft. i was excited for this one. an imperial hefe! from souther tier! but it has its ups and downs. nice sour yeast aroma. flavor is sweet malts, wheat, banana and i get a slight bite from the alcohol. unfortunately, the sweetness hides the subtleties of any spice element and makes the beer heavy. has potential - if the malts were toned down, the clove and tartness of the yeast might come through more. i feel like they were trying to compensate for the high alc. good but could have been better.

22oz bottle, lots of sediment here, pours a golden color with a medium head, nice hop flavor for a hefeweizen, more hoppy than most others, very enjoyable.

Sample at FCBF - Hazy glowing yellow color. The aroma was sweet and wheaty. Notes of clove and banana. Representative of the style.

Pours dark golden with a big big white head that stayed pretty well and laced the sides of the glass in sheets. Aromas of bannana, clove, and a bit of peppery spice. Flavor is big of bannana and clove. Slight tart citrus underneath and a touch of pepper spice at the back of each sip. Smooth from start to finish with good carbonation and you won’t find any of the 8% alcohol in it either. Really a nicely done brew!! I liked it!

Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured an hazy dark yellow color with an large frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate sour citrus, banana and spice aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium sweet spicy flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.
