crazyvin (1246), New York, USA Jun 19, 2008 For a beer that claims to be 10% it is certainly well hidden, as implied in the description. Poured a light golden brown hue with a frothy white head that had mild retention. Aroma was very malty but also had some citrus notes. Flavor was initially sweet but balanced out by good but not too aggressive hops. Finish was smooth. If it weren’t for the high ABV it say this one makes a good session beer. lamas (709), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA Jun 19, 2008 22 oz. bottle. A hazy gold body with a smallish light-tan head on top. Well-balanced aroma that is equal parts grassy/grapefruity and caramel. Medium to full-bodied. The taste is just as well-balanced as the aroma. Lots of caramel upfront to offset the citrusy back end. Very drinkable. Not too shabby. ksurkin (356), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Jun 16, 2008 Updated: Jan 15, 2009bomber from G&G. first souther tier brew i’ve tasted. just as an aside...the bottle is pretty cool with the beer stats (abv., plato, and the hop varieties). now on to the beer...pours a light orange/yellow with a smooth white head. a very pleasing look, actually. the aroma is refreshing with amarillo hops dominating and a background of peach, orange zest, and pine. flavor is stellar. very well balanced with big hops and some sweetness up front and great hop bitterness in back. the malt really comes through in the aftertaste and is just slightly roasty. mouthfeel is very smooth and the 9% is well hidden (they advise the drinker not to underestimate the innocence of the beer, ha). overall, a very well made, well balanced, clean tasting ale. hiphop (84), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 15, 2008 Hops for the sake of hops, no complaints. I had a bomber at Volo, then went back the next day for another. Poured orange with a small white head. Smelled of citrus and pine hops. I called Mondy, tried to sneak one home for him. Hey Mondy, have you had this yet? It finished bitter, but the kind of bitter I love. Boutip (2335), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jun 9, 2008 Bottle: Poured a light hazy golden color ale with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of bitter and floral hops are very pleasant. Taste is a mix between some floral bitter hops and light refreshing malt base with minimal caramel malt and more of a golden ale base. Good carbonation with full body and no apparent alcohol. Very well done and I have to admit that I could not detect the 10% of alcohol in this beer and thought it was very good for the style. bp (452), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 7, 2008 Bottle: pours a cloudy, light orangish color with very little head, aroma is sweet and dark fruits, taste has a touch of hops, dark fruits, slight sweetness, just a bit of bitterness in the finish. thejoeshow (232), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Jun 6, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours a golden/yellow color with a lovely white head and lingers and laces nicely. The nose is HUGE! Mainly citrus and pine. The flavor is sweet and citrusy and has a very nice malty backbone to support the bitterness. The consistency is almost like syrup. It feels a little thick in on the palate, but not enough to fault the beer. Very easy, fun drinker. Very nice beer. I’ll have one more please! drfabulous (1213), Columbia, Missouri, USA Jun 6, 2008 I don’t get the "American Strong Ale" description. This is a straight up IPA. Nice and hopppy. Clean taste. But not a strong ale which has that intense matly taste.
