SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA May 8, 2008 22 oz bottle: The honey red beer pours crystal clear into the glass and a thick, lace-inducing, head forms two fingers high on top. Hops hit me as I pour this thing - lookout. The nose is just fantastic - the hops are so fresh, defined and bright. Sweet orange, pink grapefruit, rose petals, rindy lemon and on and on. The aroma notes match the flavor hops in the body. More clean, fresh hops take over the tongue. This drinks insanely good for a 10% beer. Wow - this is a hop bomb but good God it is nice to have one now and again. Some caramel and honeyed malt notes do creep out as the beer comes to room temp, achieving a perfect balance. Wow - this is just really nice. I don’t know what else to say - fresh and drinkable. Yum. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA May 7, 2008 Pour is a dull gold with a very large white head. Aroma is a decent amount of pine hops with a candy sweetness. Flavor is mild hops with a caramel malt backbone and a touch of honey. Super thick mouthfeel for such a pale colored beer. This is just ok not great and probably the lowest rated of the ST beers i have had as this is pretty tame all around. Reminds me of a malt liquor with some extra hops thrown in there. badgerben (3586), Blaine, Minnesota, USA May 5, 2008 Gold color with a thin head. Lots of citrus and pine aroma. Strong bitter flavor, but it doesn’t scream citrus or pine. Just a little pine on the end. Very vegetal hop taste. waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA May 4, 2008 bottle, golden/orange pour with thin frothy white head. lacing. earthy hops, sweet malts, light alcohol in aroma. caramel, light sugar, well hopped, heavy tar like malts, light citrus. bitterness. light metallic alcohol presence. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 3, 2008 Tasted 4/25/08. 22oz bomber. Ya know, I’m gonna say that this kicked off my DLD vacation. I was sipping on this gem while waiting for my friend Dan (aka The Dan Journal) and his girlfriend to pick me up and head north. Anyway...Bright golden hue with a medium sized bubbled white head. Bright orange and honey nose. Grassy note. Full bodied and hoppy. Mild caramel and burnt toasty malts. All hops in the palate! Rolling hop profile. Bitter grapefruit honey grassy fruity flavors, all in one delightful brew. Hidden burn, you know its there, but not too noticeable. Mild tartness. Solid finish. Damn fine! BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA May 2, 2008 A crisp gold body with light carbonation and faint head. Faint malty aroma. Lightly hoppy malt body with a nice sweet malty balance. FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA Apr 30, 2008 22oz bottle. Light orange color with a small white head. Piney, citric metallic hop aromatics, some appley malt underneath. Syrupy, chalky caramel malt dominates the flavor. Spicy, earthen hops, some medicinal aspect. Ruddy malt lingers in the finish, some residual metallic acrid hop character. Mouthfeel is a heavy medium. durhambeer (1186), Durham, USA Apr 30, 2008 Thanks to Tweety for the bottle. Bright clear golden pour with smallish white head. Lovely lacing. Tropical fruits hit my nose before I even poured out of the bottle. Also some slight grassiness and malts, and fresh hops. Palate was surprisingly thick upon my first sip--whole milk thick. Perhaps the light color fooled me into thinking it would be lighter. Bitter/floral hop finish with some citrus and lychee also lingering. An interesting beer.
