LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA Nov 17, 2007 a pretty sweet brew. lots of hops, grapefruit, pine, caramel, toffee, and some alcohol warmth, and a touch of honey. VikingHammer (362), Lynnfield, Massachusetts, USA Nov 13, 2007 Pours a clear orange with a small white head. Great lacing on the glass. Light pine aroma. The hops are king in this beer with a slight alcohol a distant second.Medium Bodied. joergen (8430), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 12, 2007 Bottle, thanks to MPA for sharing.
Clear yellow coloured with a white head.
Hoppy aroma of malts, pine needles and grape fruits.
Flavour of hops, caramel, pine needles and grape fruits.
Dry hoppy finish. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Nov 11, 2007 Bottle. Molasses aroma with some hop; not my favorite. Hazy amber body with a thin, off-white head. Nice lace. Heavy alcohol presence. Excellent hop profile. Great finish. Really friggin’ excellent brew. Underrated. Southern Tier is a top notch brewer and a rising star. sunevdj (1765), Copenhagen OE, Denmark Nov 11, 2007 Wining & Dining Tasting. Pours a clear golden with a small white head. Quite bitter with heavy hops aromas that are slightly grassy when it ages in the glass. Pretty strong alcohol aroams. Grapefruity hopsaromas. Full bodied with a creamy mouthfel. Long bitter finish. JCB (1716), Durham, North Carolina, USA Nov 10, 2007 Via trade with a gentleman from the other site. Thanks, Adam! Crisp and golden, with a lively body and pleasant fruity aroma. It’s an aggressive beer, both in its intense dryness and in its slightly rough hop profile. It balances out once you get used to it, but I was surprised at how modest the malting was. Sweet and drinkable, if not overly memorable. weeare138 (933), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 8, 2007 Appears an orange toned amber with a foamy, batter-like head with bubbly pockets of cream that fades into a nice film and silky collar. Streams of CO2 quickly rise to the top.
Smell is of biscuits, citrus, pine, earthy, caramel, cat pee funk, and minerals.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with caramel, and earthy herbs standing out.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, semi-sweet, with caramel and balanced bitterness. I barely noticed the 10% abv. Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Nov 6, 2007 Via trade. Thank you Dave! The pour was a nice pale copper with a thick white to off-white head that showed good persistence and provided some lacing. The initial aroma provided a blast of soft citrus fruits that was quickly overtaken by caramel. As it opened up the caramel became quite prominent along with lots of butter and fresh cut grass. Try as I may I couldn’t find any more citrus hops. The piney hops I was looking for were no where to be seen. The flavor was a super sweet, caramel and sugar bomb. Cloyingly sweet in fact. The caramel and butter malt totally dominated this one. Rare to find a beer that has its hop profile kicked in the junk by malt the way this one was. Don’t know if this bottle was past its prime or if this is what the brewer intended. The mouthfeel was quite nice and the 10% abv was a welcome addition. Would like to try again.
