Commercial Description:
We craft this much like a sculptor who uses only a hammer and chisel to shape stone into a masterpiece. Hoppe is spawned of these few essentials: barley, wheat, hops, yeast and water. This limited palette is an exercise in minimalism, with refined elements which are deliberately selected. This simple combination creates a golden shimmering brew infused with delicate aromas. The artful nature of this beer is exposed with the first taste. As the malt and hops created a composition of flavors, and elegant finish leaves an impression that your tastes will not soon forget. Don't be deceived by th innocence of Hoppe. Please enjoy in moderation.

Bottled, tried at Sean and Ryan’s tasting in Carlsbad with DenverLogan, wetherel, WeeHeavySD and many others. Being from San Diego, this hop monster suits my fancy just fine. Dark gold color and some light white lacing. Floral and sappy pine resin aroma with lots of orange citrus. Flavor is mildly sweet with notes of wheat underneath. Finishes with medium bitterness and a great body. Nice!

Tasted at Sean and Ryan’s party. Yellow amber color. Sweet malty. Mellow hop taste, but nice hop aroma. Delicious. Another Southern Tier winner.

Sample from a 650ml bomber at Tupalev’s, courtesty of I don’t know but thank you! Looks awesome in the glass, perfect golden straw colour with a small but rich white head. Aroma is all hops, only a hint of malts, I would have thought this was a DIPA. Flavour is the same, very very astringent, the bitterness comes in waves and lingers for a while. No hint of the ABV. There is some malty sweetness in here, but I’m actually glad it’s only slight in character because I find ST’s beers tend to be on the overly sweet side. Nice elegant hop juice! Probably my favourite ST product I’ve had so far.

650 ml bottle shared by tupalev at his KW group tasting. pours light golden with a white head that stays as you drink. big american hop nose with almost no malt present. huge hop flavours with again a lack of malts. i love hops but i really like when they play off a malt spine and this brew was simply all about the hops. a great brew but not my fav hop bomb.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass. Appearance is an opaque bright orange hue, pillowy white layer of head that sustains, fair lacing on the glass. Smell is very fragrant floral and citrus hops, pine resin lingers as does crisp malts, oranges and cotton candy. Taste is initially full of sweet floral hops intermingled with a good dose of pine resin and orangey citrus, biscuity and bread malts balance out the profile midway, sweet candy and citrus round out the tail end which finishes sweet and resiny. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, creamy smooth texture, moderate carbonation. Drinkability is high, I can’t believe this beer is at 10%abv the alcohol presence is so subtle, the Imperial line from ST continues to impress, I can’t way to make my way through all these beers, this Lakewood NY brewery has slowly acquired a fan for life (now if only they could get distribution to CA!).

An light orange colored beer with a nice white head. Great hop taste with a citrus blend First couple of sips you can tell it’s a 9% beer. After that you get used to it. I had the 22oz. bottle.

11-DEC-2009, bottle @home. "Imperial extra pale ale" - what is that? Is it a pale ale or an IPA? - or even an IIPA? I can see that it is categorized as an american strong ale here on ratebeer? Why is that? Well, too many questions, let’s see what comes out of the bottle. Beautifull golden/orange with nice lasting fine white head. I have just had a Rise IPA, and what a contrast in aroma! This one is really bitter, with loads of pine, grape, and grass. BUT also very malty, and more and more as it warms up. I guess I can see that the american strong ale categorization does make sense. At least it is not a pale ale og IPA. Maybe an IIPA, but again I guess more correctly an american strong ale. Also as it warms, the alcohol is more pronounced on the nose, and some leafy (minty) tones come through as well. More and more charamel, and also some yeasty notes. Very, very creamy. Nice medium carbonation, and then the very long aftertaste with the hoppy bitterness. The more I drink, the more I like it. Is that due to the raizing temperature or simply the alcohol level? Anyway, this is a wonderfull beer. Always happy with Southern Tiers brews.

Hazy orange/amber with a fluffy, white, short-lived head. Nose is somewhat musty, quite bitter, with a good deal of grapefruit. Quite sweet--very nice, with some tobacco, pine resin, almonds. Excellent, pillowy mouthfeel.
