COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“the ancients called it ‘food for the gods’“ The Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, unfolds a complex web of mystery around a beverage known as xocoatl (ch-co-atle). At Southern Tier, we’re not surprised that hieroglyphs of the ancient Maya depict chocolate being poured for rulers and gods. Even through the many voyages of Columbus, the mystical bean remained nothing more than a strange currency of the native peoples. Moving through centuries, the circular journey of cacao has been realized in our brewing house, encompassing the complexity of the darkest, bitter-sweet candy together with the original frothy cold beverage of the ancient Maya to bring to you our Blackwater Series Choklat Stout. We have combined the finest ingredients to tempt your senses & renew the power & interrelation of history in every bottle.

Tasted in a snifter. Poured black with a dark tan, 3 finger head. Smell of dark chocolate fills the air. Taste is rich chocolate. Finishes smooth with a slight bitter chocolate taste. Best chocolate stout i’ve had....

Pours like a milk shake and it smells like one too. Nothing subtle about this chocolate stout. Can only have about a half pint at a time but the aroma alone is a chocolate lover’s delight. Had on tap in my shop in Wake Forest, NC.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2012 Pours as black as night with a quarter inch medium brown head. The head didn?t stick around long at all and left very little lacing. The aroma what you?d expect given the name - lots and lots of chocolate with a hint of alcohol. The taste is more of the same. At first, there?s almost a hint of hops but then a tsunami of chocolate hits. It?s almost too much but that then dissipates, replaced by a slight alcohol burn.Overall, this is very tasty. Not something you?d want to drink a lot of but would be good with dessert. It might also be better with a little time in a cellar to round off that alcohol taste.

Wow. Pours black with a thin tan head. Smells straight-up milk chocolate. Tastes milk chocolate up front with mild alcohol starting in the middle and building up to the end. Smooth desert beer.

Pours thick and black. Big brown head. Nose is heavy chocolate. Nothing more to say. Amazing. Taste is sweet. Well balanced actually. Mouthfeel is crisp and coating amazingly. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

HAd it alongside Dubious and Chocolate bunny. Obvoiusly they all were different with this one being a sweet beast. Lots of chocolate milk in the aroma. The flavor is chocolate and a hint of coffee.

From a 22 oz bottle, this stout has the aroma of a freshly unwrapped Godiva chocolate bar. Poured a dark brown with a short lived smallish tan head. The flavor is all chocolate and doesn’t pretend otherwise. Great mouthfeel and the 11 % ABV is hardly noticeable. A special treat that you won’t want to over do.

Pours black with small tan head. Aroma of chocolate hard candy and creme. Taste is the same. It’s like drinking a chocolate cake. Medium body for an imperial stout. Definitely a desert beer.
