We rely on age-old tools in the brewery despite being surrounded by high technology. As a sort of compass, we use the six pointed brewer’s star to help navigate uncharted brews. The cardinal points of water, malt, grain, yeast, hops and a brewer make the baseline. From there anything goes. Sometimes the journey is as important as the destination.

You’ll notice a slight bitterness in Compass derived from our use of rose hips accentuated by high effervescence. Drink it cold from a fluted or tulip glass. And by all means, avoid sea serpents.

From 22oz bottle. Pours light yellow with white head. Light citrus floral scent. Taste almost like a lemon head. Nice hop presence as well.

Pours a clear looking yellow with a big, yet rapidly fading white head. The aroma is quite floral. Additionally, there are citrus elements that, while not dominant, are very noticeable. These consist of lemon, grapefruit, and mango. The nose is altogether lighter, but it is enticing and well balanced. The taste is kind of sweet and has plenty of floral hops. It advertises rose hips, and I must say that I can taste this. I find lemon and yeast, mild spices pear, and orange. Aftertaste is mild yet long, and is a floral flavor with orange. It is very difficult to believe that this one contains the strength that is does. Light in body, with a thin and slick texture. Not a whole lot of carbonation. Overall, this one is good. It is different with what it offers. I think I usually look for more in a beer like this. Although its strong, its surprising to me that everything I find in here is pretty mild.

Tap at 7 west. Pours a clear yellow with lots of white head. Nice hops, decent yeast flavors coming through. Fruits come in late, pretty solid.

650ml bottle. Pours a hazy pale yellow with a one finger white head of fine bubbles, and some sediment floaters. Looks very much like a Belgian blonde. The aroma is boozy up front, with grapefruity hops, light orange/lemon peel, and yeasty notes. The taste is medium sweet with a beautiful fruity start, and as advertised, it is definitely citrus forward (light lemon candy, orange peel) with an undertone that I imagine is from the rosehips that makes me think Turkish delight. Bitter finish, with lemon notes, and spice. Lighter bodied with great carbonation, and lots of flavour. Southern Tier have themselves a mighty winner with this one. Definitely worth a try.

22. Pours a cloudy bright medium gold with a dense and fizzy white head that hangs around for a while. Floral, lightly minty, somewhat nitrogenous nose. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Floral notes, hay, grass, light lemon, and some biscuit on the mid palate. Very interesting combinations that do cool things together--nice expression of the palate. Mild finish.

Bottle. Pine & Citrus aroma. Hazy yellow body with sediment, medium lasting head, very nice lacing. Taste begins citrusy followed hops, pine and yeast. Lasting bitter finish. Reminds me of a strong Belgian-style IPA.

Seemed closer to a strong IPA or super hoppy imperial American to me. Was big and piney, and bitter. Some malt, but hops dominated it. Dry finish. Good, not dry.

Pours a hazy light golden with a white head that fades to a film. Great simple aroma- bright and citrusy. Grassy, dry, some crackery pilsner malt and some chalky white pepper phenolic notes. Definitely some Belgian yeast notes, but stays pretty clean. Lively effervescent body. Flavor is dry. Has apparent crackery pilsner base characteristics. Some grassy and resiny C-hop notes come through the chalky Belgian yeast notes (although they are subtle). Simple, dry, highly drinkable. Has a long hoppy vegetal finish with some soft bitterness. Sessionable and doesn’t feel like 9% ABV.
