We rely on age-old tools in the brewery despite being surrounded by high technology. As a sort of compass, we use the six pointed brewer’s star to help navigate uncharted brews. The cardinal points of water, malt, grain, yeast, hops and a brewer make the baseline. From there anything goes. Sometimes the journey is as important as the destination.

You’ll notice a slight bitterness in Compass derived from our use of rose hips accentuated by high effervescence. Drink it cold from a fluted or tulip glass. And by all means, avoid sea serpents.

I enjoyed the special rose taste. A good beer with hazy pale color and citrusy aroma. On tap

"Bottle conditioned sparkling ale brewed with rose hips & citrusy hops." Bloody hell... sold! $8.00 exactly for the 650mL bottle purchased from One Stop Market yesterday evening. To long-stemmed wine glass, it pours a sediment-heavy amber golden sustaining a sloppily sudsy snowy white head 1 fingernail in length. Aromas of hibiscus, pralines, shortbread, crystalized ginger, lemongrass, denim, peanuts, and sea salt. Tastes flowery, dainty, and bittersweet, with notes of lavender, juniper twigs, roses, Pilsner malt, and orange peel. Sage, an explosion of yeasts, Hungary water, rose water, and Hass avocado at swallow. Impressive. A lot of flavor in this one. It’s either going to be a hit or miss using rose hips, but I congratulate them for trying this recipe out. Not bad; different. Has an intriguing watery thinness and hides its alcohol content quite well. Would have again.

22 ounce bottle, bottled on 05/03/13. Served in a tulip, the beer pours a hazy gold color with about an inch off-white head that stayed around for a while. There’s also a decent amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells really floral, the rose hips really stand out in the aroma. There’s also citrusy (lemon peel, grapefruit) hops and some peppery spice noticeable. The taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some pineapple and bready malt. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit creamy and has a good amount of carbonation. I think it’s a good overall brew, but I’d like to try a fresher bottle next time.

it reminds me of a field of flowers, the malt are strong and biting while the hops are stingy with a citrus note. its strength is slightly hidden but has its quality.

UPDATED: NOV 18, 2013 The aroma is floral, malty, yeasty, and citrus. The appearance is cloudy orange with floating particles. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall good but not great.

650ml bottle. Pours a hazy medium gold, with a large white head, which lasts fairly well and leaves reasonable lacing. Fresh citrus and leafy hops notes mix with light white bread malt and floral rosehip notes to create the aroma. Zesty lemon and lime hops up front give way to white bread and caramel malt in the mid-palate. Mild floral bitterness from the rosehips combines with leafy hops to finish. This is not the most complex beer out there, but it is one of the most refreshing, with enough about it to maintain a bit of interest too.

Light haze on this pale gold beer, good white head. Crispy palate. Light malt base, touch of cream. Light citrus, nice orange, grapefruit and mild lemon. Nice sweetish floralness. Something else fruity as well, the rosehips most likely. Light finish. Tasty and very drinkable. Pleasingly floral - fruity.

Pours a bubbly golden with dense white head. Light citrus hops in the aroma. Taste of grains, citrus, floral hops, light yeast, bitter finish. Hides alcohol very well.
