4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz bottle poured into glass. Pitch black color with a tannish orange head which dissipated to the edge of the glass. Aroma of caramel malts with a hint of chocolate or molasses. Fairly sweet in flavor which is surprising for a beer this dark, oaty aftertaste. Very rich and full on the palate. Little rough on the palate when compared side by side with Stone Russian Imperial Stout. Overall a really good sipping beer from Southern Tier.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black liquid drools from the bottle with tan head. Rich, roasty aroma. Creamy oatmeal body + roasted malt base + under-attenuated sweetness. Works, though; I like this stuff.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
"this batch at 11%. pours black with practically zero head. thick stuff. super smooth, and though it’s heavy, no hint of being quite so strong. aroma and flavor of molasses, a touch of hops, cocoa. chocolate & a touch of ripe fruit in there as well. a "no frills" stout that happens to be pretty darn great."

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
From old notes, tasted with Curtis and some friends in Nashville, probably some time near the summer of 2012, from a 650mL bomber bottle. Pours dark cola brown with an average brown head that leaves an average collar. The nose is lightly smoked, milk chocolate sweetness, dark chocolate roast, tons of malt and molasses. The flavor is the same super sweet, all about the different layers of chocolate malt, not terribly complex, but not terrible either. The body is full and creamy with just under average carbonation and a long malty sweet chocolate finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at home. Three years old. Has a deep brown to black colour and a small light brown head that fades fast. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, licorice, nice roast, oak and dark berries. Nice flavour with more roasted tones, ash, pipe tobacco and leather. Has a soft and rich mouth feel, and a light to medium bitterness. A round, balanced and tasteful imperial stout.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Drought. Inky black with small foamy brown head, sour cherry aroma, tastes like roasted malt and cherries, low carbonation, bit of a vanilla flavor, longish finish with alcohol aftertaste on palate.

Transfer from BA review on 10-22-12-
Poured from bomber into snifter glass
Appearance – The beer pours a deep-brown nearly black color with a tiny thin wisp of tan foam. The foam fades very fast to leave almost no lacing. Upon swirling the beer in the glass it is seen to be quite sticky with it slowly sliding down the sides of the glass back to the body of the beer.
Smell – The aroma is lighter then would have been anticipated. It was largest of a sweeter caramel and roasted malt aroma. There are notes of oat and some chocolate and coffee mixed with in. A light alcohol aroma is present as well rounding out the smell.
Taste – The taste begins rather sweet. It starts of caramel with a sweeter chocolate and roasted malt flavor. Toward the middle of the flavor, an oat flavor comes to the tongue with some darker fruit flavors of plum and raisin. It has a very nice flavor here and then transitions nicely to a very different, but equally pleasurable flavor blend. Bitter chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt come at the end with many of the sweeter flavors losing some strength. When combined with the oat flavor as well as a light alcohol flavor, it creates a roasted, dark, bitter, warming feel on the tongue. It is quite nice.
Mouthfeel – The brew coats the mouth and smothers it in all its great flavors. The body of the beer is chewy and thick with a lower level of carbonation level. The feel is fantastic for the bitter and dark flavors of the beer, as well as the warming alcohol taste.
Overall – Very nice. I love the smooth flavor transitions in this one. It starts out sweet and then moves to more roasty and bitter. The feel helps with both the great flavors as well as the transition of those flavors. Really a tasty and enjoyable beer to drink. Grab one, sit back and sip slowly.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
The body has a very dark black color which I can’t even see through. On top of this opaque body sits a small tan head which fades quickly leaving just a ring of lace. Glass lacing is minimal and very slick. The aroma is over the top sweet and roasty. It’s heavy on roasted barely, burnt caramel and dark toast. I also pick up light notes of toffee and hard butterscotch candy. The flavor sweet sweet sweet!!! It has a full bodied hit of sticky sweet roasted malt that delivers notes of burnt caramel, burnt toast and burnt raisins. Molasses and chocolate also hit the sweet tooth and then everything hooks up with the boozy alcohol and rides slowly off into the finish. The palate is smooth creamy and sticky all at the same time and the carbonation offers little help in lifting this feeling.

Bottle. Nearly black pour with a thick mocha head. Creamy chocolate and raisin aroma. Lots of chocolate in the flavour, smooth oats, a touch of coffee and dark fruits. Full bodied and very flavourful, but perhaps a touch sweet. Nearly perfect.
