Bottle. Aroma of citrus hops, then some pine, melding into chocolate and coffee. Flavor continues to be a seamless blend of popping hops and smooth chocolate and coffee. Lingering finish is particularly piny. None of the notes of each branch of the beer is particularly striking, but together ST has really made them work.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black. Aroma is chocolate, a bit astringent, with pine and citrus. Flavor is initially caramel and faint chocolate, moving into a hop driven finish with pine and grapefruit notes. Nice, but perhaps a touch sweet for my tastes. I wish the hops were a bit brighter in this.

Pours black body with a white generous head. Great C-aroma. Great taste of grapefruit with the malting making it a great complexity. Above-average moutheel. Good drinkability.

22oz from that douchebag Immy - sniff it! This oneís a quirky delight. Black IPA, sure, but not in the Stone 11 sense at all. Big dark pour with a 2-finger tan head and nice retention. Tangerine in the nose along with plenty hops and a modest black malt quality. Full mouthfeel. The flavor is very complex, no mere concoction of roasts and hops (which is fine, you know). Thereís chocolate, orange, lemon rind, and some bitter hops in the finish. Think espresso with lemon, in a certain sense, maybe crossed with Fantome Chocolat. Nice.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cola black with a brownish tan head. Aroma is sweet and tangy hop presence with only a slight roasty character. Taste is the same with a decline in hop character, and an increase in roast. Very nice, but I am an Unearthly fanboy. $8/22oz

Another great sample from Steve-O, at Edddies beer station. Pours black as night, medium tan head, some lacing. Up front it has a spicy hops flavor, with chocolate malts coming out toward the middle. Ironically, the flavour is a little sweeter than the start, a residue on the palate of chocolate and grapefruit, and other piney hops. Good medium to thick mouthfeel. An OK IPA I suppose, would like to try the on tap version.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours deep, dark brown - almost black - with a light tan head. Aroma is surprisingly bright for an ale this color - sweet, citrus hops (grapefruit and mandarin) play off baking spices and some caramel malt. The flavor adds a touch of roastiness, with the malts coming through a bit more, but this one throws you off really well - doesnít taste anything like it looks. Not very bitter for all the hop flavor in here - it follows the ST pattern Iíve seen thus far, and is pretty sweet. Very good overall, but the roastiness is a bit stale (think old coffee beans), and the flavor doesnít live up to the nice, bright aroma.

22oz. Bomber. Another winner from Southern Tier. Close your eyes and its another impressive Imperial IPA. I donít notice any of the stout characteristics mentioned by others except for the color. Inky blackish color with a thin head and subtle lacing. Strong whiff of grapefruit with a bit of lemon zest and pine. Flavor is dominated by hops with a spicy citrus character. The non IPA characteristics of this beer are very subtle and if not for the color Iím not sure you would notice them at all. Perhaps a hint of roasted barley and a touch of cocoa flavor. Very smooth and velvety texture with medium carbonation and no hint of the high alcohol content. Finishes with a flourishing dry bitterness. A highly drinkable brew that I could see turning into a session beer.
