3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 NobleSquirrel (3286) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 8, 2009
Bottle from Armanetti’s on Lincoln. Pours a brown/black with minimal head. Nose is too roasty for what they’re selling. Pleasant resiny hops, minimal spiciness. Taste is hops forwarded, but this one is just too sweet and roasty. Not enough hops crammed down my throat to really find it enjoyable. A bit tart as well. Pretty mediocre, which sucks because this could have been good. I think ST needs to get a more attenuative strain of yeast.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 hoplover406 (204) - Crofton, Maryland, USA - APR 8, 2009
I’m really diggin’ ST’s efforts lately. They are really making some delicious experiments! This is another success IMO. Interesting contrast of the dark, roasted malts with powerful hops.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 stankenk (130) - Maplewood, Minnesota, USA - APR 6, 2009
Pours a dark brown with a tan head. The nose is pretty strong in citrus hops with some subtle notes of roasted malts and chocolate. Comes across the palate as citrus hops. finishes roasted and chocolate malts. Very good. dry, bitter finish.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 blipp (4782) - Newark, New Jersey, USA - APR 5, 2009
Bottle. Pours deep ruby with a beige head. The aroma is dominated by floral and piny hops, with a hint of malt. The flavor brings sweeter citric hops up front, with sweeter malt and roasted malt rounding out the middle, and some pine and floral notes in the finish. Light lingering bitterness. Very nice.

22 ounce bottle. Pours a deeper black with some amber notes and a medium foamy/creamy deeper tan head that left tons of sticky lacing. Aroma of deep toasted malt, toffee, nuts, caramel, pine, light floral and citrus hop notes. Flavor of toasted malt, nuts, caramel, pine and citrusy hops.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Cletus (6177) - Connecticut, USA - APR 4, 2009
Pours dark brown with a white head. Smells of caramel, citrus, molasses, resiny, earthy. Tastes bitter and resiny with some citrussy splashes and a spicy finish. Unusual and a far cry from an imperial IPA.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 thornecb (3640) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - APR 4, 2009
Pours black into a tulip. Beige head with medium retention recedes leaving scant sheets to bubble surface. Grapefruit aromas. Creamy dark caramel and chocolate moving to citrus and back...from front to back - very dark and balanced.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 yesyouam (1016) - Fairport, New York, USA - APR 4, 2009
Southern Tier Iniquity is a very dark (nearly black) ale with a thick, foamy, light brown head. It thins out a little but stays put to the bottom of the glass. It leaves a generous, thick sheet of foam all the way down the glass. It has a strong citrus aroma that’s detected from arm’s length. It’s all grapefruit and pine. It is medium-full bodied and incredibly smooth and soft in the mouth. It tastes squarely between sweet and dry. It’s very well balanced; hoppy, but not overly bitter. The finish seems to have a touch of roast or ash. It is thoroughly enjoyable and unique.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 pineypower (2146) - Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA - APR 4, 2009
Pours out black with a small creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, soy sauce and a grapefruit/pine hop aroma. Flavor is of citrus and pine hops blended in with some strange burnt earth notes, baker’s chocolate and some roasted notes. Not sure on the double IPA classification and not really sure what I think of this.
