Thanks to Peter for the bomber! Poured clear, deeper brown with a surprisingly short cap of tan head. The aroma picked up an interesting blend of malts (chocolate and molasses with a sweet complexion) supporting bright pine and citrusy hoppage.. really well-balanced. The flavor was just as good.. molasses led the malt base with coffee, black patent, and chocolate in there too.. quite bitter on the edges with pine, citrus zest, and floral character.. long bitter finish carried through some of the tasty malt. Medium-plus bodied with low-to-moderate carbonation on the palate.. balance was spot on, and the 9% didn’t show until after the drink.

[2124-20090502] 650mL bottle. Mildly grassy hops aroma. Clear, very dark brown body with a quick foamy off-white head. Roasted nutty malt flavour. Medium-full body is smooth. Drinkable and pleasant.

Pours brownish/black with tan head. Aroma of piney hops. Taste of hops and chocolate. Nice combo that is not expected. Medium mouthfeel. This is very good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured a dark brown color with okay head and good lacing. Aroma was lots of pine and citrus hops, as it warmed could smell the caramel malts. Flavor was much the same with the lots of hops that pushed out the chocolate that should have been there. Good brew, doesn’t fit the label though.

Poured from bomber into snifter. Very sold light tan head already starting to lace after a few minutes of letting the head settle a bit. Very beautiful dark brown color with a touch of ruby. Aroma is incredible, dark hot chocolate and floral hops combination - seriously delicious smells. Pretty much exactly the way I would describe the flavor. These are sips to savor - subtle roasted quality on the palate, nice and bold but not overpowering with a great warming quality.

Pours a bit darker than cola. Almost to the point you can’t see through it. Nice sized white head with small bubbles. Slight malty aroma with a bit of chocolate. Amazing flavor, tastes like a mild chocolate stout and and IPA mixed together with nothing out of place. A sweetness, a roastyness, some chocolate, hop bitterness and hop flavor. One of the best purchases I have picked up in quite awhile.

Black in color with a fluffy head. The head eventually fades away, but still a very good looking beer. Has a sweet/malt but subtle smoke/roast aroma. A fairly pungent beer. Very sweet flavor with a wonderful roast flavor as well. This reminds me of Port Brewings Old Viscosity - an american strong ale? Good flavors. I thought this was a porter at first. Nice creamy palate (as seems to be the case with all Southern Tier beers). Beers opens up to have a lot of malt sweetness with a bold roast flavor. Pretty good brew, but for me it is a little too sweet. I think I have just had too many ales lately. I might need to cut back to the pale lagers for the time being.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep dark brown color, nearly black; a minimal amount of light will shine through. Great lace (chunky and ringlike after each sip). The head starts off well and seems to hold its shape at the end
Smells like a dark brown ale with a generous amount of hops tossed in. Well balanced with a light chocolate malt aroma mixed in.
Chocolate, cocoa, cream, hops all blended together in beer frappe (thick body, low carbonation). The aftertaste is bitter and lasts for at least fifteen seconds.
Here is a cross between a brown ale and a Double IPA. Delicious and worth seeking out.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours from a 22 oz bottle very dark brown with a thin, filmy off white head. Aroma is a strong citrus and alcohol mixture, light pine notes later along with a mix of caramel and black malts. Flavor begins with a citrus and pine hops bite, moves into a melding with the black malt and finishes with a light raisin and light nutty flavor with a sharp alcohol ending. Beer feels pretty thin with very fine carbonation. Overall the hops was very noticeable but the thinner feeling of the beer seems to offset the overall balance of the beer making it a one time beer in my mind.

22oz. Pour is cola brown with a small ring of off white head. Aromas of piney hops, grapefruit, and a hint of caramel. Flavor is full of roasted malts, coco, piney hops, and finishing sweet. Interesting brew and very drinkable.
