COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Southern Tier Iniquity is an Imperial Black IPA, which is also called an Imperial India Brown Ale. This is a style that seems to be increasing in popularity. The hexagram talisman has been used around the world for centuries to invoke magic and good luck. Wishes of good fortune often collaborate with the brewer’s creative to yield dramatic results. We carefully chose the name for this Imperial IBA, Iniquity - a word opposing goodness. Why? This beer is contrary to what one might expect from an IPA; this is an ale as black as night. It is the antithesis of Unearthly. Some may consider it an immoral act to blacken an ale. We suggest they don’t rely on conventional standards. Allow the darkness to consume you. Iniquity weighs in at 9% alcohol by volume. It uses four different hops and 2-row pale malt along with debittered black malt in it’s brewing.

22oz. - Black, light tan creamy head. Roasty pine and grilled grapefruit aromas rest on undercurrents of cola from start to finish Soft sweet roasty notes mingle with bitter citric and pine flavors throughout. Rounds with a slightly burnt aftertaste. Medium to full bodied, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Really enjoying the rise of the black IPA. This one is no exception as it turns out to be another Southern Tier winner...

Bottle from SL. Poured into a snifter, black in color not much head. Nice hoppy aroma. Taste is nice and hoppy. Malty, chocolate, lots of roasted malts but some how the hops shine through. Very interesting. Sort of like blend between DFH Indian Brown Ale and a hoppy beer. Texture is average and so is the carbonation level. Another good beer by ST. Also the alcohol is well hidden. Overall good brew.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a small white head. Aroma of sweet citrus, cappucino coffee, and light roasted malt. Flavor is sweet initially with a roasted malt/coffee finish. More on the brown ale side than the IPA side I think, but an interesting blend. A little sweet too. But I liked it overall. 7/4/8/4/14 (3.7/5)

Bottle. Aroma of citrus hops, then some pine, melding into chocolate and coffee. Flavor continues to be a seamless blend of popping hops and smooth chocolate and coffee. Lingering finish is particularly piny. None of the notes of each branch of the beer is particularly striking, but together ST has really made them work.

Black. Aroma is chocolate, a bit astringent, with pine and citrus. Flavor is initially caramel and faint chocolate, moving into a hop driven finish with pine and grapefruit notes. Nice, but perhaps a touch sweet for my tastes. I wish the hops were a bit brighter in this.

Pours black body with a white generous head. Great C-aroma. Great taste of grapefruit with the malting making it a great complexity. Above-average moutheel. Good drinkability.

22oz from that douchebag Immy - sniff it! This one’s a quirky delight. Black IPA, sure, but not in the Stone 11 sense at all. Big dark pour with a 2-finger tan head and nice retention. Tangerine in the nose along with plenty hops and a modest black malt quality. Full mouthfeel. The flavor is very complex, no mere concoction of roasts and hops (which is fine, you know). There’s chocolate, orange, lemon rind, and some bitter hops in the finish. Think espresso with lemon, in a certain sense, maybe crossed with Fantome Chocolat. Nice.
