Southern Tier Iniquity is an Imperial Black IPA, which is also called an Imperial India Brown Ale. This is a style that seems to be increasing in popularity. The hexagram talisman has been used around the world for centuries to invoke magic and good luck. Wishes of good fortune often collaborate with the brewer’s creative to yield dramatic results. We carefully chose the name for this Imperial IBA, Iniquity - a word opposing goodness. Why? This beer is contrary to what one might expect from an IPA; this is an ale as black as night. It is the antithesis of Unearthly. Some may consider it an immoral act to blacken an ale. We suggest they don’t rely on conventional standards. Allow the darkness to consume you. Iniquity weighs in at 9% alcohol by volume. It uses four different hops and 2-row pale malt along with debittered black malt in it’s brewing.

Tasting shared with the Monarch of Malt Drbayern, The king of Cool Celticbrew, Uncles Steve and Tom, our New Beer pimp Brian and Dancin’ Paul. Poured dark with a light, off color head that was creamy. The aroma was predominantly malt. It was Hoppy, but the malt flavors came through nicely, making it sort of like an over hopped stout. The finish was great, and the mouthfeel was wonderful!

Roasted malty aromas and a dark black body with grayish brown head. Flavor is similar to a stout or porter. Good roasted malty flavors. Creamy palate with a good level of richness and duration. Balanced.

Black pour with essentially no head. Interesting aroma of unripened fruit, vegetal, and some light coffee roast. The roast comes out more in the flavor, as well as a sweet candyish flavor which is hard to explain. A touch of black pepper spice on the finish. This may be one of the most unique beers I’ve ever tried. Don’t really no what to think of it. Not all that great, yet not bad either.

Bottle. Popped the top and I new I was in for a treat when hop smell filled the room. Truly awesome black iipa. The first black iipa I’ve sampled. Like a porter blended with dreadnaught. Awesome!

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a tan head over a very dark brown body. Aroma of light hops, chocolate and brown sugar. Taste is hops, sugary, ashy and brown sugar. Light bubbles and a syrupy mouthfeel. Hops were a bit lacking for my taste.

Pours a very dark brown with a small bubbly off-white head. Very green aroma, dirty earthy hops, piney, floral, touch of banana and molasses. Flavor is quite odd, smokey banana, burnt sugars, green dirty floral hops, ashy, some chocolate. Medium bodied with nice medium carbonation. A little strange.
