COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Southern Tier Iniquity is an Imperial Black IPA, which is also called an Imperial India Brown Ale. This is a style that seems to be increasing in popularity. The hexagram talisman has been used around the world for centuries to invoke magic and good luck. Wishes of good fortune often collaborate with the brewer’s creative to yield dramatic results. We carefully chose the name for this Imperial IBA, Iniquity - a word opposing goodness. Why? This beer is contrary to what one might expect from an IPA; this is an ale as black as night. It is the antithesis of Unearthly. Some may consider it an immoral act to blacken an ale. We suggest they don’t rely on conventional standards. Allow the darkness to consume you. Iniquity weighs in at 9% alcohol by volume. It uses four different hops and 2-row pale malt along with debittered black malt in it’s brewing.

UPDATED: APR 12, 2015 Bottle from Epsom Circle Market. Aroma is mostly hops and yeast with mild maltiness. Appearance is beautiful, clear, dark dark reddish brown, with 1 finger height beige head, with nice persistent lacing. Taste is more bitter than sweet but is a good balance of both--hoppiness initially and more malty in the long finish. Palate is thick medium-full bodied creamy feel with just about perfect carbonation--maybe a bit to the high side initially, but mellows with time. Overall, nice complexity from the nose to the taste with nice appearance and palate.

Nose is light citrus, flavor is citrus, tropical fruit, candy sweet, medium roasted malt, berry, spices, light vegetables. Medium sweet, light bitter. Finish is medium lasting fruity, happy, roasty bittersweet, quite hoppy, light alcohol. Full body, dry and sticky texture, soft carbonation. Easy, tasty dessert beer, very complex aroma.

Nearly black color with a beige quick dissipating head. Aroma is more in the stout side, with roasted malts, dark chocolate and espresso, but has a slightly piny a citrusy hints. Taste is sweet, with espresso, choclate and some caramel, but also fruity and citrus hops. Bitter aftertaste that lingers for a while. Very good Black IPA, but I expected a much more hoppy presence.

Clear deep crimson with a small tan head that fades quickly. Nose is toffee and dark fruit with a backing of chocolate and citrus. Light sweet start with a medium light bitterness following, Not as expressive as I was expecting. Medium mouth with soft carbonation. Maybe I was expecting too much but this was just average.

650ml bottle at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Black color with small beige head. Malty aroma, light roasted, light caramel, olives. Sweet malty taste, caramel and chocolate, olives again. Medium oily body with soft carbonation. No hop presence in this bottle, I know it was more than one year old.
