Commercial Description:
IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPA’s namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India dark a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

smell is pine, lemon. reddy amber with a disappearing head smooth piney taste, sage, bitter herbs, straight up tastes like hops, that kind of almost cannabis taste, alcohol kind of shines through. medium bodied, nice and smooth. damn good. need to get it again

Pours a bright, clear, yellowish copper from the 12oz. bottle: Nose of citrusy, grassy hops. Taste is similar with more of a malted balance than an overload of hops. I live for that severe overload. Lightly carbonated and bodied, this ale unfortunately feels a little lackluster. Drinkability: A vibrant and solid IPA, but may fall short to hopheads. Rebuy: I mean, it’s SoTi and an IPA! Of course I’m buying again. #201 on 19112009, DG.

THOUGHTS: Better balanced than the new Pale Ale., but still a little hop heavy. Not very memorable, but nice. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a light to medium orange with an average, ever so slightly, off-white head that mostly diminished, but somehow left excellent lacing. The aroma was nice, but a little weak. There was moderate, caramel malt, lighter candied fruit and moderate to heavy orangey hops and lighter resinous hops. The initial flavor was sweet and lightly bitter; while the finish was sweeter and rather bitter with a long duration. There was orangey citrus hops, candied fruit, pine hops and caramel. The light to medium body was a little syrupy and then slightly dry with lightly fizzy carbonation and a slightly chalky and lightly metallic finish.

On draft at Isaac Newtons. Pours a golden amber color. Cascade dominates the aroma as well as the flavor. Pretty good IPA but there is definitely better.

12 oz bottle from TC Craft. Golden brown pour with a thin white head. Fresh, citrus, hoppy aroma. Typical IPA flavor, not too in your face. Nice and hoppy with a bitter finish. Decent but uneventful for me.

On tap at Kinsale Irish Pub, Boston MA, 29 October 2009. Orange colour. Clear. Thin white head. Quite moist, slightly spicy hop aroma. A sweet edge presages the flavour which is ever so sweet and very leafy. There is plenty of hop presence but it is not at all bitter and fails to produce much grip. This leaves the beer feeling a bit flabby (not to mention sickly sweet) on the palate. The bitterness only appears in the aftertaste. Serviceable but not one of Southern Tier’s better offerings on this showing - maybe not at its freshest.

on tap @ 4:20. Giaollo oro antico intenso; Aroma fine ma non molto intenso il luppolo si attenua con il passare dei minuti e dolci note di malto si esaltano all’interno del bicchiere...Molto amara e abbastanza secca..Finale non molto persistente.

Clear orange-amber with a small, white head that diddn’t last long. Light citrus and pine nose with a little bit of fruit and some caramel malt. Sweet malty flavor fades into light bitterness. This one is more on the English side of ipa’s. Nice flavor and drinkable, but nothing spectacular.
