4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is my first Southern Tier. I visited a Comfort Inn in Jamestown, NY and the mart across the street was selling it. I picked it up b/c I love IPAs. The bartender at the Comfort Inn told me about them. So, here goes my first taste of Southern Tier. Pours a nice orange. Little foam. Malty smell, bitter hop aroma. Piney bitter hop aroma. Here goes the taste. WOW, was not expecting this! That’s a good IPA! Piney, bitter, yet sweet and malty. Very delicious! A nice feel in your mouth, then the after taste is just wow! Very bitter! I like this, very good, well done Southern Tier.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Looks great. Every beer I’ve had from Southern Tier tastes, looks, and smells ultra ultra fresh. This one is no exception. Smell is complex and fruity. I wish there was a rose or flower that smelled like this. Taste is really unique. It’s an IPA, hands down, but it just has tons of prickly flavors. Immediate after-taste is a little off, but hardly noticeable. Starts out smooth and creamy, then the palate does a 90 degree turn into a dry ass desert. Probably evidenced by the 6.5 ABV. Six pack for 7.49? Worth every penny.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This is a real easy drinker. Very smooth and tastes great. Golden in color on the pour with little head. Smell is slight hoppy. Taste is crisp, refreshing and nice. I could see going through a sixer of this with no problem. A solid, easily sessionable brew.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
looks refreshingly good in the glass. moderately darkish and clear amber with a short foamy head. there certainly is a lot going on tastewise. all of the usual things that make an ipa nice and tasty. but for me nothing really stands out, except that there is a low malt profile. the word i keep thinking with this is moderate as in moderately...and then a bit better. and that is how i will speak to this rating. a nice safe ipa which is -moderately- refreshing. with a nice moderate carbonation and a pleasant m-----te bitterness. oh, and just a touch of quality allfruit sweetness.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured into pint glass with large foamy off white head and active carbonation. Amber colour. Aroma of grapefruit hops, hindering with a sweet candy like aroma. Initial taste is a mouthfull hits with several profiles. Grapefruit, caramel overlaying a nectar fruit. Finishing with a chewy malt body and bitter hops lasting on the palate. Long lasting head and good lacing of the glass. Great Ipa.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A good IPA, though I’ll never be a big fan of the genre. Pours prettily amber with a very light head. Tastes of honeysuckle mingling with grass and pine notes, as well as a soupcon of hardwood, with a warming alcohol and hops finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Clear rust orange pour. Very sweet and pleasant aroma of caramel and maple syrup - woody, resinous, with a hint of plastic. Muted citrus hop tones offer swift, darting accents to this chewy toffee malt body. These are bright rays of nectarine and peach sunshine. Finishes on a creamy wheat grass flourish, giving way to another appearance of soft bourbon like sweetness. Palate could use a bit more life, but eases the flavor qualities into harmony quite nicely. Refreshing, with a full character. Thanks Jason!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUN 21, 2007 draft- huge centennial hop aroma. Wow. A great flavor that brings in the bitterness nicely. Citrus going on. A brewer that knows how to brew this style.
Re-rate: not as nice out of the bottle. Less centennial hop presence, less interesting. (original rating: 6/16/2007)

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rated 5/15/07: Nice looking dark copper color, almost has a light amber hue. Frothy white head and some very nice lacing along with a powerful carbonation. Mildly faint aroma of citrus and hops (at least faint for an IPA). Calm flavor with a noticeable orange citrus zest. The hops are tame for this style but have a wonderful evergreen flavor, rather resinous to boot. Very malty, the mouthfeel is lightly chewy. Well balanced with a good drinkability. Satisfied my craving and was mellow enough to enjoy more than one.
