IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPAís namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India dark a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

Huh, this one was a pop top bottle. The other two ST beers Iíve had so far were twist-offs... Anyway, this beer pours as cloudy amber color with a lasting white crown. Aroma is great - mostly like clover honey with some caramelized orange hops in the background. The flavor begins much like the aroma smells and gradually builds to a very pleasing hop bitterness and toastiness that lingers on the back of the tongue for quite awhile. The alcohol starts to peek out just a bit in the middle and finish as the beer warms some. This beer also has mild carbonation and feels full and almost creamy in the mouth. I almost wonder if this bottle has been sitting around for awhile as its aroma, flavor, and mouthfeel remind me of an aged beer. Another really good beer from Southern Tier. Now Iím really looking forward to trying the rest of their beers! 12 oz bottle, $1.71 from Belmont Party Supply.

Clear amber sporting a large, frothy, durable off white head - very nice. Spicy aroma with some orange and lemon as well. Medium body, light carbonation, and a smooth feel. Some caramel sweetness that is kept well in check by peppery spice and citusy bitterness. Finsihes dry with a lingering thirst quenching bitterness. A very smooth and drinkable IPA.

Ruby in color after pouring. Little to no head. Smells of hops and floral, but just slightly. Earthy smelling. Tastes a little dry but not to much bitterness, almost sweet. Tastes very light on the palate; easy to drink with a lingering taste in the mouth even after it goes down. The taste is also earthy, but seems to have lost the floral that I smelled. A decent beer, but nothing I will jump for joy over.

This beer is your typical fine brewed east coast IPA without being over the top. Plenty of hoppienss with out being overpowering. I nice drinking IPA plain and simple.

Amber body with a huge rocky beige head. Aroma of pine and grapefruit. Flavor is super hopped with loads of floral and peppery character. Really intense. Solid malt backbone which lingers into the sweet finish. Somewhat overcarbonated, but okay. A really nice brew.

(12oz bottle) Clear amber body topped by a small off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, grapefruit/pine, some caramel, cookie, light floral/orange. Taste is medium sweet, orange, caramel, some grapefruit. Medium body, some stickiness, nicely drinkable. Not to be mistaken for a West Coast IPA, this is nevertheless a fine beer.

UPDATED: OCT 26, 2006 Liked it better on second try. A touch sweeter than other IPAs, but good balance between malt and hops. Lingering bitterness that I liked.

Crystal clear, medium copper color with small off white head. Aroma is malty, slightly sweet, fair amount of caramel, vanilla, and kilned malts. Flavor is a bit malty with some caramel, almost iced-tea like, a touch of citrusy hops. Finish is relitively dry, balanced.

Pours golden with white head. Lemony citrus scent. Candy like malt backed by a flowery/lemony hop.
