Southern Tier IPA

Tasted 4/19/09. 12oz bottle. Filtered with a golden hue. Nice ring of off-white head. Bold aromas with hints of candy citrus and yeast. Medium bodied with a pleasant sweet and bitter dichotomy. Bright palate. Solid.

Clear copper color, small white head. Grape and citrus hoppy scent. Sweet, bitter, hoppy taste. Medium mouthfeel, high bitterness.

355 mL Bottle. The label states 6, not 6.5 octane as stated in this RB listing. Deep gold body with a frothy slightly off-white head that settles to a thin but tenacious rocky layer that laces the sides beautifully and leaves a "set of foam ribs" down the sides of the glass with every sip. Resiny hops dominate the intense aroma with notes of pine, grass, grapefruit rind, and floral. Flavor! What a slap in the tongue! Hops, hops, hops, oh... what shall we celebrate with this one? A hoppy birthday? Well mine is not until July but I have this beer marked to have instead of a birthday cake. The intense hops do make way for the rich sweet malt and crystal malt that express right away after the swallow with fruity hints and a note of grapefruit. Intense yet not complicated. The hop bitter expresses in the aftertaste and then lingers in the finish in an astringent way that... get me another one, now! This beer rocks and rolls! Hey you brewers down there the other side of Lake Erie: you can make some top-notch beer and you’ve proven it with this one. This IPA is simple, straightr to the style and just fantastic. A nose full of hops and small amounts of caramel and a flavour dominated by ultra clean hop flavour, circling around the citrus/flower combo. Extremely balanced and clean with a nice subdued fruitiness and a clean, cleansing bitterness. This beer really proves, that there is no need to go extreme to be extremely good!

(Bottle at Hilpä Hauki, Helsinki, on 2009-04-17) Amber and clear. Small white head. Frutiness and citircness in aroma. Medium bodied and dry palate with medium carbonation. Malts, sweetness, lots of frutiness, lots of hops, citricness and bitterness in taste. Bitter and fruity aftertaste.

Bottle@Home. Pine and grapefruit aroma. Amber/yellow colour, beige head, good lace. Sweet, bitter, pine, grass, grapefruit. Full, soft, dry finish. Flavourful yet easy going.

Great aroma - smells like fresh fop pellets. Pours a clear gold color with a small white head. Taste is citrus hops - grapefruit, lemon, and a nice earthines as well. Solid dry finish. Very drinkable and enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours translucent amber with a flocculent white head that subsides quickly leaving modest lacing. Aroma is mellifluous, pine resin, sweet citrus, apple, slightly biscuit, and perhaps some Vienna malt. Flavor is honey, orange, pine resin, grapefruit, slight malty kick after the bitterness. Pretty good actually.
