Commercial Description:
IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPA’s namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India dark a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

Great grassy, citrus hopping with a real nice bitter finish but there’s a little something missing here which keeps this from being one of the great A.P.A.s. I hate to say this but it’s a little too focused on the hops without quite enough backbone. Still worth trying. A few times.

Copper color with a medium head. Orangey aroma with some light pine and sweet caramel malt. The hop profile switches in the flavor, favoring pine over citrus. Moderately acidic and a little vinous. Solid IPA.

Bottle. Great medium dark orange amber with slight hue, good lacing. Some sediment. Nose is of fresh florals, just cut, also has notes of caramel. Mouth is aggressively floral and spicy with some notes of cilantro and celery. Ripe and clean carbonation. Long bitter dry burn of a finish. Very big for the breweries regular IPA. For the style, excellent.

Taste 2/9 bottle. Looks: Caramel body with a thick top. Aroma: Nice hop blend aroma. Taste: Floral and citrus hops with spice. Beginning and finish are good, just a little unfocused in the middle.

12 oz bottle courtesy of the Binnys Singles Rack (Orland Park, IL). Pours a nice orangish gold hue, moderate white head that retains a little and laces, just barely hazed. Aromas are fresh from the bottle, carmel malt aromas from the pour mixed with gumball candy, hairspray, and light citrusy hops. Initial is a little lighter bodied than most IPAs, moderate carmel malts balanced with a grainy sweetness, light citrusy hops, subtle gumball candy elements. Backend shows more bitterness, but flavor falls off a little. Light bitterness and flavor on the back of the palate, some light grass, aftertaste is light but sustained. Glorified APA?
