Southern Tier IPA

12oz bottle from LCBO - something in the $14 range for a 6-pack. NY pricing, this ain’t. Pours a nice dark copper. Little head. Decent American hop aroma, but perhaps it has lost a bit of freshness. Flavour is initial hop bitterness followed by a warming hoppy finish. A solid American IPA - which is a style that is sorely lacking availabilty in Ontario.

12oz Bottle: Coppery amber w/ a biege head. Pleasant grapefruit hop aroma w/ an underlying layer of sweet malts. Flavor is sweet up front followed by bitter hops that sustain through the finish. Spicy hop flavor lingers w/ a syrupy sweet stickiness that hangs around for a bit. Pretty good.

In short: A sweet sugary extra-crisp IPA. Good beer but too sweet/sugary for its own good.

The look: Clear dark-golden topped by a very small off-white head
In long: Nose of citrus fruit flavoured candies and some coniferous notes. Taste is surprisingly sweet. The beer doesn’t have that heavy caramelized malts body, instead it has that boring sugary/candy sugar flavour. Then comes some hard-barley candies. Fruity hops profile with some fruity hops with some citrus fruits, grapefruits and a little orange. There are hops in this beer, probably a whole lots of hops but the beer is just too sweet/candy for the hops. In the land of over-hopped beers if there’s a brewery that I suspected could do an overly sweet IPA it is Southern Tier. Yet another extra-sweet product from Southern Tier, if these guys could make women…

Pours a clear golden amber with a small bubbly white head that dissipates quickly to a collar of foam leaving spotty lacing. The smell is earthy and subtle with pine hops and a solid malt backbone dominating. The taste mirrors the smell with a grassy hop kick up front before the malts take over in the middle. The pine hops kick in a little in the finish with only the slightest bitterness lingering between sips. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and a little sticky with modest carbonation. This is decent IPA and very drinkable with a subtle, less overpowering hop profile.

Love this stuff. Great Pine Cone / Pine Needle Hop taste, the hops will stick to you due to it having that resin type feel to it. ABV hidden with in this quality beer. My 2nd favorate beer for these guys, a great 6 pack to buy / try out if your a hop head.

Very hoppy, floral aroma, super hopped. Clean white head dissipates slowly, leaving some lace. Nice amber, orangy copper colour. Enjoyable!

Bouteille de 12 oz obtenue via Importations Privées Bièropholie. Arôme: Odeur de tangarine et de pin. Apparence: La couleur est orangée avec une faible densité de bulle. Présence d’un mince col mousseux et d’une fine dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Goût d’agrumes et de pin avec une pointe de caramel. Longue durée de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture huileuse. Présence d’amertume en arrière goût. (Rating #1866)

Bottle from the LCBO. I was excited when this came to Ontario. I love the intense hop flavors. Can’t wait to get some more beers like it.
