doubleipa (224), Georgia, USA Jun 26, 2008 Had this at the Brickskeller in DC. Light brown head, smal, clear. Aroma was not very hoppy, mostly pine, resin and a bit of honey. Taste was sweet and very smooth. Really smooth and creamy. Not a bad IPA, but nothing I would go out of my way to find. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Jun 24, 2008 12 ox bottle from the LCBO. what the LCBO has a real IPA? f’ing awesome. pours orange with a small off white head. aromas are caramel malts and american hops. flavours are wonderful IPA goodness. i cant believe i got this locally and not from a trade. its really good to see the LCBO comin around. lets hope they dont retreat back into the "pale lagers of the world" faze they were in for the last 62 years. pootzboy (1035), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada Jun 23, 2008 Updated: Oct 21, 2008Bottle:
Pours a clear dark amber with a standard rocky 2 finger cap which it does not retain too long...fair lacing.
Aroma is standard Pac.NW Cascade hops grapefruit and floral, with a sweet malt undertone and some leafy herbaceous earthy accents.- excellent nose on this ale.
Flavor profile is fairly decent for an APA of this genre but I find it a bit unbalanced towards bittering rather than the juicy citrus cascade hopping in other Micro APAs...Good caramel malt spin ride just below the bitter-citrus resinous hopping then it tails off in to a light drying in the finish with a lingering metallic after taste.
A big APA but personally I prefer Anchor Liberty and other select +65 IBU APAs over this as they seem to balance the bittering better with the malt profile. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Jun 22, 2008 great citrus aroma, loads of grapefruit, oranges, lemon, mandarin, just a wicked aroma. The flavour is again very hoppy, but not very bitter tough, its a sweet IPA, no super bitter, and the malt is a little lacking, its there but not as much as i would like. but its very hoppy, and the citrus notes are what i like, and this is a great IPA. carl4beer (394), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA Jun 22, 2008 12 oz. pours clear deep golden with a pleasant off white head. aroma has a signature southern tier citrus hop. mouthful is zesty with a nice citrus up front hop that fades to a pleasant bitter finnish. seem to be missing the caramel notes of a malty backbone. JesseM (660), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jun 22, 2008 Updated: Jul 26, 2008355mL bottle from a sixer, from the LCBO (’bout f***ing time, if you weren’t a gov. monopoly you guys would never be able to get away with the crap you do). Pours a beautiful deep copperish amber with a small white head that dimishes fast to a surface film. Aroma: Niiiiiiice! Intoxicating American hop aroma, just great stuff, I could sniff this for hours, it smells like a hop vine to me, with a small hint of a decent malt backbone. Flavour: Loads and loads and layers and layers of hop goodness, very hop forward and nicely bitter. Sweet in the finish from the decent malts, but this one is definitely almost all about the hops. Really, really nice stuff here. This had better become a regular listing at the LCBO. Hops! rampmaster (314), Alden, New York, USA Jun 20, 2008 Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. The color was orangey amber with a foamy off white head. Its head slowly fades to just a thin covering of bubbles. Hops attack the nose with spruce pine, resin and light citrusy hop aromas. The flavor hits your tongue with bold piney and citrusy hop flavors. Malt flavor lies underneath and offers some balance with a mildly sweet and bready tone. The palate has a slightly oily smooth texture with a medium body and soft carbonation. This is one solid IPA that has good flavor and drinkability.
VeloVampire (483), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 20, 2008 355 ml bottle - pours a light copper with a thick white head that diminishes to a surface layer fairly quickly. Hoppy floral aroma with some herbal notes. Flavour well balanced, but certainly in favour of the hops. Quite drinkable. Mineral quality in the mouth. Bitter finish. Solid IPA.
