Commercial Description:
IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPA’s namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India dark a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

6-pack from SL Market LCBO. Very smooth drinking IPA with good herbal hops aroma and flavor. Not overly astringent or bitter, and not heavily matly. Just nicely balanced.

Nice looking with a good, fluffy head and slightly hazy color that almost matches the label. Considerable amount of resin malt overbalances the flavor of the hops, yet it then finishes too bitter and astringent at the very end(compared to the amount of hop flavor you get). It’s almost like it’s trying to be a IIPA, but wouldn’t even fit in there. Just not much of a fan, but might be right up some people’s alley.

(Bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/w target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) Pours bright but slightly hazy amber with two fingers of somewhat rocky light biscuit head. Aroma of grapefruit, caramel and some light vanilla. Mouthfeel is fairly smooth with a nice bit of heft for the style. Lots of patchy broken lacing. Flavor is grapefruit hoppiness over some light, malty-sweet caramel. Medium-bitter with a bit of a bitter pinch in finish. Lingering grapefruit and lightly floral aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with a fluffy one finger white head. Aroma is grapefruit, hint of biscuity malt. Taste starts off with biscuit, then come the citrus hops -- not as bright as some ipas, but still a nice, firm, prickly hop presence and bitterness. Finish is nice and bitter. Mouthfeel is a bit creamy, classic. Nice example.

Bottle courtesy of mcferc4...THANKS AGAIN ROB!!! Very tasty little brew...kind of wish this one was a bomber!!! Nice citrus and resin aroma with just enough sweetness. Copper colored with a two-fingered white head. Flavor is pretty well balanced...not in the same category as AleSmith and maybe not even Great Divide but a tasty IPA non-the-less. I’ve really enjoyed everything from this brewery.
