Commercial Description:
IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPA’s namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India dark a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

Clear orange copper with fair white head / Pine nose with sweetness and caramel / Medium body, little watery, with malts slightly more predominant than hops, with fair finish / Simple flavors of pine with fading, bitter finish / A fair effort - thin and lacking fruit.

12 oz. bottle. Clear orange pour with a quickly dissipating white head. A little lacing here. Caramel aroma. Citrus and caramel notes in the front end. Mild hop finish. Excellent example of the style.

Southern Tier’s IPA is decent, average and wouldn’t stick out too much in a crowd.

Bottle. Pours a translucent orange-copper body with a small, white, creamy head. The aroma is quite piney along with notes of sweet bread. Pleasant hop flavour profile - not overly bitter nor astringent. There’s some biscuit bread type underpinnings and a little bit of alcohol to keep things balanced. Finishes with significant chewy hops.

Southern Tier IPA is a hazy sienna ale with a small white head with oily bubbles. It leaves good lacing. The aroma is very fresh. It smells like wort being boiled. It’s mostly citrusy centennial hops with sweet caramel underneath. Medium-full bodied and velvety smooth, it leaves the tongue smooth and cleanly. It has a nice piney flavor. It is citrusy and resiny, grassy and a little sweet. The bitterness is strong and in balance with everything else. The aftertaste is faint and of citrus peel and evergreen trees. This is a great example of an American IPA.

12oz bottle. I am beginning to think this is one of the better East Coast breweries. Resinous and caramel aroma. Pine, household cleaner, plastic, agave and tea on the nose well. Pours clear bright orange copper with a thin white head. Bitter and slightly astringent flavor. Slightly soapy. Where’s the pine and caramel? Medium bodied with lively hops and carbonation. I think this one might not be the freshest example of this beer. Too bad. I would love to try a fresh one. All in all, a good IPA and I still really like this brewery.

1-2-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to davehoward!
Nice hoppy aroma. Transparent amber with okay head. Nice hoppy flavor that is very muted though. Not too soapy or intense. Thin palate. Overall, very average. I want more flavor and depth.

Consistent quality from this brewer. Their IPA is one of my favorites, it has somewhat of a pine hop aroma and a creamy mouth feel. This is a potent brew, like an IPA should be. Not for beginners in beer tasting.
