Commercial Description:
IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPA’s namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India dark a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

Pours a clear golden orange color with a thick frothy off-white head that has excellent retention, slowly fading into a lasting cap that leaves streaks of lacing. Floral and citrus hop aroma with hints of citrus fruit, pineapple and grapefruit and a caramel malt backbone. Slightly piny. Very crisp and smooth drinking with a decent balance of malt and hops. A little too malty for my preference taking away from the bitterness and citrus notes from the hops. Still earthy and bitter however with a dry pine finish.

12oz. bottle. Nicely hoppy, citric aroma, fresh and juicy with notes of grapefruit, orange and pine along with some faint light malt sweetness. Clear medium golden amber color with a lasting, fine head. Flavor is also properly dominated by leafy, citric hop flavors and a fairly high degree of bitterness, more grapefruit and pine to be found throughout, alongside the gentle caramel malt sweetness which remains in the background and some faint herbal touches. Resinous and smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of effervescence and a medium body. Just a good, drinkable IPA, nothing fancy.

A: Poured with a small, white head that quickly dissipated to a sparse covering. A very nice, golden-amber color with some haziness throughout. S: The hops are what come through the most, but they’re slightly fruity with hints of lemon and lime; maybe even some orange in there as well. T: Very nice. Starts with the lemon-lime that you detect in the smell, and then finishes quite dry and bitter. This is a very fine-tasting IPA. M: Average carbonation, with a light body and slightly creamy texture. D: A really good IPA; the hops and bitterness come through quite nicely, but I wouldn’t have a problem having two or three of these. Definitely something I’d get again.

Dark amber pour with small head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is sweet malt with lots of citrus and earth, rounded out with bits of resin and pine. Flavor is quite sweet, with forest, earth, and citrus. Very well balanced and put together, but a little on the sweet side. Palate is medium bodied with a dry resinous finish. A yummy specimen for sure.

Orange amber with a very minimal white head. Aroma has lots of citrus, with pink grapefruit and clementine, along with earthy hops and a bit of pine as well. Flavor isn’t quite as sweet as the aroma, with some forward bitterness and earthiness. There is also a floral kick near the finish. An impressive IPA for something so accessible in the region, nice offering from Southern Tier.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear orange gold with a tall sticky white foamy froth. Aroma is fairly mild, highlanderone has it right, cake?, light sweet maltiness, slightly herbal, I seem to be missing my hops. First taste is a nice balance of sweet and earthy bitter, light honey-like caramel sweetness, slightly waxy, floral hops but I definitely do not have the freshest bottle. Long lasting piney very bitter aftertaste with some harsh alcohol burn. Medium bodied, slightly sticky, low carbonation, kind of dull feeling. I’m sure its much better fresh.

Bottle at Universitetsbaren Århus. Amber colour with a white head. Aroma and taste of fresh hops, caramel and a bit citrus. Very very nice and balanced and I like the fresh edge and crisp mouthfeel. Nice balanced and not overhopped US IPA. Best IPA I´ve tasted for a looong time.
