Commercial Description:
IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPA’s namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India dark a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

Amber clear color, big cloudy head. Fresh, hayish, fruity hoppy aroma, nicely balanced. Good maltyness makes this enjoyable IPA.

A good solid IPA, good use of hops - not too fruity or sweet, a trap that some brewers fall into. Amber deliciousness in a pint.

Bottled, thanks to a couple fine folks! Poured clear light-medium golden with an explosive cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up plenty of citrus and piney hop influence with sweet candied fruits serving as the malt backing. The flavor had caramel and some fruits again at the sweet core, surrounded by a high level of pine, grapefruit, and floral bitterness.. came across as a touch stale, with a lot of lingering bitterness on the finish. Medium-bodied and well-bittered on the palate with enough malt to support it.. all in all a very good beer!

On tap at the Sharp Edge Creekhouse near Crafton. Ubiquitous pale yellow american lager appearance. This creamy head. Certainly has that hops aroma, floral and almost piny. Yes, taste impact is IPA, but to me it seems more controlled than most unbalanced IPA. Perhaps I’m turning the corner on enjoying IPA> Chewing on grapefruit rinds but again it is not out of control. This stuff seems to be a little less oppressive than many IPA I’ve had recently. Mildly carbonated. Finish is bitter medicine but not as bad as I anticipated.. Not quite as good as Founders and Two Hearted. On par with Majic Hat HIPA and better than Stone IPA and DFH 60.

Bottle: Dark gold with a clear view on through the glass. The small head was off-white. Juniper shrubs abound in the aroma as well as in the flavor. Great all around, in yer face IPA.

Big grapefruit aroma and flavor. A good amount of caramel sweetness. I’m surprised at how good this is. I kind of avoided this because i thought it would be a shitty east coast ipa like southampton or weyerbacher. But i should have known better because southern tier is actually good. this tastes very similar to goose island ipa. Very similar and very good.
