IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPA’s namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India dark a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

Clear dark amber with a 1/2" head that sticks around, swirls and beads of lace. Taste is full caramel malt that is injected with medium citrus hops midway through the palate The malt shares the finish. A lot of taste, good movement, good balance. Recommended.

The hops are the star here, only its not overwhelming at all. With a sweet malt aroma, and slightly bitter hop taste, this was a pretty good IPA.

Not very impresive IPA. not over bitter. Pine citrus notes but bitterness more prominint than citrus. FOr ABV there are better choices. Light on the flavor profile. Nice lasting head. Average.

Serving type: bottle A: translucent honey gold cold color, one finger head, with good lacing. S: hop forward with pine, citrus, grapefruit, and a hint of mint. T: a sweet crackery and honey malt flavor gives way to the hops. Lemon, grapefruit, with a minty floral note. O: a decent IPA, nothing wrong with it, just nothing amazing here.

This IPA was very dissapointing. My own home brewed IPA is alot better then this. The southern tier X2 is much better. I won’t have this beer again.

FROM NOTES: August 12, ’12. From a bottle into a pint glass. A: Strong grassy, citrus hops with a bit of biscuit aroma mixed in. A: Pours a cloudy amber to gold with a thick white head that dissipates slowly. T: Follows the nose, VERY hop forward with a bitterness that lingers long in the finish and a hint of roasty sweetness. P: Medium to full body with creamy carbonation. O: Very fruity and excellent IPA. I suggest letting it warm a bit to really open up the flavor.
