COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPAís namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India dark a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

Beautiful copper pour. No real head nor any retention. Nose is muted malts. Some citrus/ pine hops but like I said...muted. taste upfront is very malty. The crystal malt is evident. The hops shine through with a grassy pine resin type of flavor. The aftertaste is lingering astringency. Thin in the mouth and average carbed. Decent beer. Iíll likely have it again eventually.

Drinking at home in a thin tulip glass. For some reason this smells like a lager to me. I know itís a strange comment. I havenít had any lagers in this glass in case you were thinking transference. Looks good, built a good sized head which stuck for 5 minutes. Fallen down now. Crisp taste with a lighter body than some Ipas. Hops provide a background but donít come out as the main flavour. Alcoholy taste in the middle and a pale malty after taste. Could probably drink this as a session. Drinking without evaluation reveals some citrussy pineapple flavours that donít stick around very long. It is light on the tongue and doesnít leave a heavy taste. Drier than many Ipas and leaves a bitterness. I would drink this again if the mood struck me, but not for a long while. Closer to an Apa.

On tap in a shaker. Its also in Japanese restaurant where the smell of teriyaki overwhelms me so maybe the actual aroma is better than Iím getting. Light golden color with a frothy beige head. Aroma is grapefruit, pine, hops and a very distinct caramel malt sweetness. Flavor is hop forward, pine, resin, and a little bit of malt sweetness. Medium carbonation. Fairly Well balanced but I think a little more malt in this would go a good ways. Very Solid IPA.

On nitro at Anvil Pub in Deep Ellum. Pours a nice golden color with creamy white head. Citrus and pine on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with some sweetness.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tasting from Octí 2013.
A fine example of a cross continent, new age IPA that wonderfully showcases the hops used. It produces a deep amber and just shy of bright. Fine and tight carbonation lifts up a solid, rocky white crown that daubs a thick lace. Earthy, floral and spicy whole hop nose encompassed by notes of grapefruit, pale stone-fruit, pine-needles, nettles and damp, sharp herbs. Clear cut, bright and bold hops dominate the palate. Body is medium with a soft feel, oily back-end and dry finish. Well rounded, earthy, floral and zesty with ample fruit and toasted malts to lift it. Generous bitterness is retained long after swallowing. Quite spicy and tangy, drawing saliva in to quench the palate. Sessionable but with a lot going on to keep the mind ticking over in quiet contemplation. Nannaís whole rose garden seems to be floating right there in the liquor. Very nice stuff and one Iíll definitely track down again. (12fl.Oz, no date stamp [assured a fresh batch], Cellarbrations Carlisle)

Appearance: pretty clear darker gold with amber hues in it as well, pours with a medium off white head Aroma: malty sweetness, caramel, butter, alcohol perhaps, Taste: a caramel malt sweetness, moderately bitter throughout, bitter finish Palate: lively carbonation, bitter aftertaste, medium body Overall: kind of a let down, I'm glad to have southern tier in louisiana but a lot of the stuff in stores in old, this bottle was tasted 4 months after bottling 2 days after I bought it, lacks complexity or any eye popping characteristics ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
