COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPAís namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India dark a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

Clear, dark copper/amber. Ecru head. Very hoppy aroma of grapefruit & pine. Sticky feel. Flavour is very bitter w/ pine needles & grapefruit coming through most strongly. Could use more malt for balance.

Bottled. Hazy orange colour with beige foamy head. Fruitish hoppy aroma with some malty notes. Bitter hoppy flavour with dry finish. Standard IPA, but hides itís 6,5% well.

12 oz bottle courtesy of the Binnys Singles Rack (Orland Park, IL). Pours a nice orangish gold hue, moderate white head that retains a little and laces, just barely hazed. Aromas are fresh from the bottle, carmel malt aromas from the pour mixed with gumball candy, hairspray, and light citrusy hops. Initial is a little lighter bodied than most IPAs, moderate carmel malts balanced with a grainy sweetness, light citrusy hops, subtle gumball candy elements. Backend shows more bitterness, but flavor falls off a little. Light bitterness and flavor on the back of the palate, some light grass, aftertaste is light but sustained. Glorified APA?

12oz bottle. Normally I would probably rate this a bit higher but I have been tasting alot of great IPAs this week and this one doesnít quite stand up to some of the others tasted recently. I still love a good IPA and this one is in fact good but there are many better ones out there that I would choose over it. This one seemed somewhat on the thin side.

UPDATED: MAY 31, 2009 Bottle. Golden orange colour. Fruity and malty aroma. The taste is sweet, biscuity and fruity at first. Then more bitter. Notes of citrus, caramel, grass, apricot. Bitter finish. A bit one-dimensional on the hop front. Maybe better more fresh?

A little weak as an IPA, but nonetheless with a decently fruity nose, and with a good amount of bitterness. A solid brew, easy to drink.

It is orange-golden with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of fruit, spruce and malt. The flavour has a light sweetness and notes of caramel, citrus/oranges, other fruits, light soap and dust and the finish has some grapefruit and itís dry and bitter. Somehow this is not what I expected from this brewer, perhaps I should re-rate it some day, since itís not as fruity/refreshing as I hoped for...

12 oz bottle from secret santa. Thanks rudy. Pours a cloudy copper gold with a very small white head. Aroma is somewhat mild with pine, mild citrus and something perfumy floral. The taste is caramel malty with mild piney hops. The mouthfeel was light and crisp. The finish was short and dry.Overall: Not a bad little IPA, might have been cutting edge ten years ago, but now its not up to current craft standards.

I enjoyed this fine beverage in a 20 oz oversized pint glass at the blue tusk in syracuse, NY. It had a very subtle and nicely balanced hop vibe to it. It kind of had an english ale smoothness to it. It was a nice beer to finish the evening with. Very chill floral aroma as well.
