COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPA’s namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India dark a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

My label is "fancier" than the pictured label. I bought this case at Shangy’s yesterday. Copper colored, with a minimal, rapidly fading head. HUGE aroma of hops, pine, resin, subtle apricots. Tastes extremely hoppy, with some citrus and a lot of pine, resin, some apricot, and a hoppy, piney, acidic finish. This one is hoppier than some double IPAs I’ve had! I bought this case because it was around 20 bucks for a 4-beer variety package. I did not know nor expect that it would be this good. Bravo to Southern Tier. I can’t wait to try their other styles. A bona fide, knock your socks off, hall-of-fame IPA.

man this IPA has a killer hop aroma- like you are sticking your nose into a bowl of hops! The appearance is really nice too, as is most of the southern tier brews- a nice amber with good lacing- not so much thick but good retention. The thing I like the best about this IPA is while it is not my favorite, it really accomplishes its brewer’s goal- to make an accessible yet authentic IPA. ’Filtered and clean finish ’ wouldn’t normally turn me on to an IPA, but this, like SNPA, is something I could show my macro-friends and convert them to hoppiness.

Great hop nose, flavor and very well balanced. Best ’hops in a bottle’ available.

12 oz. bottle. Clear orange pour with a quickly dissipating white head. A little lacing here. Caramel aroma. Citrus and caramel notes in the front end. Mild hop finish. Excellent example of the style.

UPDATED: JUN 21, 2010 Looks like Southern Tier finally made its way down to GA. This one pours a clear orange with a good head. This is one of my new favorite IPAs. Aroma is really nice, lots of pine, citrus and resin. Taste follows suit with a nice hop bite that really gives this beer a stand-out factor. Leaves a nice oily hop finish after each sip. Bitterness was there but not overpowering. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Another solid East Coast IPA worthy of battling those of the West Coast. Super super solid.

From tap at Akkurat, Stockholm, Sweden. Pours a perfect golden colour with a thick white foam, very creamy. Aroma is hoppy and hints of grass. Taste is very bitter and very pleasant, one of the best beers I have tried in a long time. Perfect carbonation as well.

One of my favorites. Hoppy, but balanced nicely. The alcohol content is just right at 7.3 %.

A great everyday beer. Hoppy, good malt balance, a good alcohol warmth, and very drinkable. Pine with hints of apple.

It poured a deep cloudy orange and gave the same color body. A beautiful half inch white head forms and lasts for a good minute before gently dieing into the body. Nice ringy foamy spider web lacing speckles the sides and clings to the pint glass. The smell has strong tones of pine, citrus and hops. There are some slight malts coming out as the beer warms. The taste takes the previously mentioned smells and gives more of a earthiness to it. I like it. The palate is about a medium and feels great on the tongue. Overall, this is an excellent choice of an American IPA. I didn’t think I would like this one as much, but this is solid for me and its style.
