If there’s a better American IPA out there, I’d love to hear about it (although the Smuttynose IPA runs neck and neck, IMHO) - and, yes, I’ve had the Stone IPA (which is a bit too tame for me).
Love this hoppy, powerfully-flavorful stuff, and pick it up every chance I get.
Re-rate on Feb. 16, 2008. Not sure this is quite as good as I imagined it to be a few years back. Maybe either my palate or the recipe has changed. Still a very tasty & well-balanced IPA that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. (Total score adjusted from 4.4 to 4.1.)

Aroma is grapefruit and citrus. Flavor is strong on grapefruit and oranges but with a background of sweet malts. Very tasty. a10555 (125), West Chester, Ohio, USA

I had no anticipation of this beer being good, but a friend likes their porter so I thought I’d try. Wonderful beer, tastes very smooth for an IPA. Hoppy, with a great finish. Not too bitter, but bitter enough to stand out. Will definitely buy this again. coldbrewky (742), Saugerties, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 9, 2007 Updated: Nov 15, 2007This one was a real head turner for me. Bottle: Quick pour yields deep copper with a dense white foamy head. Head settles sloooooowly. Nose is of whole hops, medium aroma. Probably dry hopped. Robust full body is balenced expertly between the quenching malts and lively hops. Welll melded and thought through. Hop finish is strong and rounds quietly down to a noce tingle of a finish. Long lasting sparse legs let you know that a great beer was in the glass not too long ago. Very nice. JesseM (681), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Pours a beautiful deep copperish amber with a small white head that dimishes fast to a surface film. Aroma: Niiiiiiice! Intoxicating American hop aroma, just great stuff, I could sniff this for hours, it smells like a hop vine to me, with a small hint of a decent malt backbone. Flavour: Loads and loads and layers and layers of hop goodness, very hop forward and nicely bitter. Sweet in the finish from the decent malts, but this one is definitely almost all about the hops. Really, really nice stuff here. This had better become a regular listing at the LCBO. Hops! halfonit (488), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA

Their IPA is one of my favorites, it has somewhat of a pine hop aroma and a creamy mouth feel. This is a potent brew, like an IPA should be. Not for beginners in beer tasting.
