2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: NOV 4, 2009 Small sample from a bomber at a tasting at Bishops Arms, Göteborg, Sweden. Firstly, the name is a bit misleading since it makes you think there are (old) Java coffee beans in there, but instead they are Jamaica Blue, a gourmet variety with subtle mild complexity. Why use such coffee in an Imperial Stout one may wonder. Secondly, it is not a good effort at all, with pungent coffe notes, alcohol, and some liquorice. Far from the best Coffee stouts like Beer Geek Brunch/Breakfast or Peche Mortel.

Big time coffee aroma. Fairly bitter and acidic. Bitterness lasts through the finish and sticks to the palate.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Southern tier tasting at coles. Dark dark brown black thick pour with a big healthy foamy light ashy brown head. Big coffee nose with some hop bitterness. Taste is sweet coffee up front with a bitter roasted finish. Pretty thick but not too heavy. Medium short finish.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 3/6/2012. Pours pitch black color with a small dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, cocoa, toast, light char, dark bread, caramel, toffee, floral, light vanilla, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted malt and coffee notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, milk chocolate, toast, light char, dark bread, caramel, toffee, floral, vanilla, and roasted earthiness. Light amount of coffee bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark/milk chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, toast, caramel, toffee, floral, dark bread, vanilla, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic balance and complexity of big chocolate/roasted malt and coffee flavors; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent coffee stout!(even with the age). Great complexity and balance of roasted malt and coffee flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the gravity. A highly enjoyable offering.

Sweet chocolate, coffee, vanilla, roasted bean smell is strong, you can also smell the alcohol, coffee black look, the taste is sweet, chocolate/coffee, not very bitter, just enough bitterness to linger on your taste buds, a little warm on the swallow. This is one good stout! If you like coffee stouts this one is for you!

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The aroma of this brew is lightly hinting at coffee and cocoa, and the color is an opaque black with a small tan head. The taste is delectable with its mild sweetness and slight bitterness, and the palate complements this nicely with its soft carbonation, bitter finish, thick creamy texture, and medium body.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber. Thanks to Tmac220 for sharing with me! Poured a deep, dark brown with a minimal light brown head. Aroma was a little coffee and some chocolate. The flavor followed, and was fairly creamy and just a little sweet. I liked this one a lot, and would seek it out again.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours black with some brown around the edges, no head to speak of. A dense looking imperial stout. The aroma has coffee bean, some light chocolate, and a bit of alcohol. The taste has a medium roasted coffee with some additional sweetness on the finish. Of all the ST stouts, this is by far the weakest i’ve had. Not bad but not great.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Heavy toasted, dark chocolate, strong coffee and molasses for the malt, faint herbs for the hops, light earth for the yeast, with background notes of toffee, vanilla and cola. Head is small, frothy/fizzy, tan with a few spots of lacing with good legs and is almost fully diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts heavily sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Palate is medium, to full, creamy to syrupy in texture and has a soft carbonation and a moderately alcoholic finish. A little too sweet for me, but the mouthfeel of this Imperial Stout made it way too easy to drink. Tasted just like desert, and just like the bottle says, don’t drink it right out of the fridge.
