beerandIT (177), Richmond, Virginia, USA Apr 20, 2009 Pours very dark with minimal head. Can see through this guy in the right light. Lots of coffee in the flavor. On the front and back of the palate. Hides the alcohol too well I think. Again lots of coffee. Medium bodied. Get this one if you can. Duhast500 (176), , Massachusetts, USA Apr 20, 2009 Poured from the tap into a tasting glass.
The color is a dark black with a brownish head with some slight foam. Nice lacing.
The smell is a moca coffee flavor and a bit of burnt malt.
The taste is a burnt malt, and moca coffee almost like and expresso. Does have a slight but nice coffee aftertaste.
The mouthfeel is smooth. No bite to this high ABV brew. Very satifying.
Serving type: on-tap
HighlanderOne (538), Somewherein, New Jersey, USA Apr 19, 2009 Here it is, my 500th! Poured from big bottle. Aroma is cocoa and coffee in a wine barrel. Jet black, just a bit of head. Hot chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, black forest cake. Extremely creamy feel. Doesn’t seem like 12% to me. Bit of an alcohol kick at finish. A beer worthy to be my 500th. jeff789 (360), Pennsylvania, USA Apr 16, 2009 Pours a very nice opaque black with a big creamy deep tan head with great retention... aroma of bitter chocolate coffee roasty slightly milky some dark fruits subtlely... taste is hugely roasty with big bitter coffee flavor and a touch of lactose... full bodied, full mouthfeel, alcohol is well hidden but you can definitely feel it... AguynamedTodd (1), Indiana, USA does not count Apr 16, 2009 Bought a bottle it at the Empty Pint. A dark beer similiar to any coffee stout. Coffee amd dark chocolate aroma. Full bodied with medium coffee flavor. A good coffee stout but there are few that I’ve had that are better. bierkoning (5989), La Tropica, Netherlands Apr 15, 2009 Bottle. Almost black and opague. Malt, cream and coffee in the relatively soft aroma. Full bodied, thick on the tongue. Malty sweetish, salty flavor with coffee and lciorice. Hints of smoke. Very tasty beer with a firm roastbitter aftertaste. stankenk (130), Maplewood, Minnesota, USA Apr 14, 2009 Pours black with a tan head. The nose is coffee and chocolate malt. Comes across the palate rich and malty; the coffee notes were muted. A rather oily mouthfeel. Finishes with a subtle coffee drpimento (793), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Apr 13, 2009 No screwin’ aroung here! Poured with a big thick, lucious, creamy, foamy head, but not all that much lace. Aroma is coffee, dark ripe fruits, brandy, malt, and a bit roasty. Flavor’s about the same, but a lot more sweet. Coffee flavor’s a little like when it’s brewed to strong and gets an over done taste; although, this is certainly a very well done brew. Alcohol comes on a little at the very end. So big, not a session beer. Nice finish.
